Recent Call of Duty Poll Shows Fan’s Demand For Prestige System In Black Ops Cold War

After years of using the Prestige System, Modern Warfare introduced the rotating seasonal rank that resets frequently, rather than keeping a constant record of player’s efforts. Recent rumors have been circulating that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be using a similar seasonal ranking system, and it seems that fans do not completely agree with this decision.

The Prestige System was primarily used as a gate to slowly reward players with new emblems, class slots, and cosmetics. As players gained prestige, their icon would evolve showing how much time they had dedicated to each Call of Duty title. The seasonal rank system does something similar, but it resets with every season making some fans feel as if they lost game progress. Many fans do not approve of the seasonal system being implemented into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Waras evidenced by a recent poll.

A Twitter poll ran by Call of Duty news account CharlieIntel showed that community support largely backs the Prestige System. For many, the Prestige System offered fans a rate of progression and honor when it came to leveling. Players who managed to max their Prestige were considered top of their class in the Call of Duty community, rotating seasonal level just doesn’t hold the same appeal for many fans.

The new system in Modern Warfare, although it does offer more in cosmetic and item rewards, takes away from the level grind by maxing players at level 55 each season. With no end in sight, players may be less motivated to grind out the game and shoot for higher levels after maxing their rank in each season.

In total, the poll took in roughly 140,000 votes. With 88% in favor of returning to the traditional Prestige System, the developers can truly get a good idea of how the community feels about the change. Fans on Reddit, Twitter, and varying social media have been speaking out about the decision, but now there are hard and solid numbers to back exactly how the Call of Duty community feels.

Still, the Prestige System is not without flaws. The max prestige does end player involvement in the game after some time making some fans less likely to return to the title. While it is a lofty goal, most fans don’t make it to the final prestige within the game’s average lifespan.

If anything, this poll gives a clear sign as to what fans want in the next Call of Duty title. Players will just have to wait and see what the development team decides when it comes to the final production of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s ranking system.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to release on November 13th for PC, PS4, and, Xbox One, With PS5 and Xbox Series X versions coming later.
