Nvidia Devs Answer Questions About the RTX-30 Series | Game Rant

Reddit AMAs are an easy way for companies to receive questions directly from consumers that they might not have otherwise considered. Nvidia held one earlier this month to address questions surrounding the GeForce RTX-30 series graphics cards which were announced at the beginning of September.

The questions ranged from technical aspects of the product’s design to how it will impact performance for gamers and content creators. Senior Vice President Tony Tamasi went into detail about how the goal for this new line is to double FP32 throughput, and answered key questions about the RTX IO, which allows the GPU to read from a solid-state drive at much higher speeds. He also confirmed that the cards’ full features will be supported on Windows 7 and 10.

A number of queries answered by the developers related to how the RTX-30 cards will fit into gamers’ current builds. Nvidia’s Senior Project Manager Qi Lin indicated that the card’s new flow through cooling system will work best if it is configured to blow fresh air onto the GPU and hot air out of the computer case, so it wouldn’t matter whether the chassis was inverted. He also indicated the HDMI 2.1 connection can support up to 8K graphics at 60Hz with 12bit HDR.

Senior Project Manager Seth Schneider went into detail about Nvidia’s new Reflex technology. He said GeForce GTX 900 GPUs and more advanced models will have access to Reflex’s Low Latency mode, as long as a game’s developers have implemented Nvidia’s API. Known games with this support include Apex Legends, Destiny 2, Fortnite, Valorant, and three Call of Duty games. “We look forward to adding as many titles as possible,” he said.

The Nvidia Broadcast app was of particular interest to streamers and other content creators, so Senior Project Manager Gerardo Delgado delved into how it uses AI technology to perform feats like noise reduction, auto framing, and the ability to cut out a background without the use of green screen technology. The video codec SDK is currently at version 10.0, and will be implemented in the coming months.

One takeaway from the AMA is that many of Nvidia’s software advancements crafted for this line will be available as driver updates. That’s encouraging to anyone who may find it difficult to locate 30-series cards due to limited supplies and, inevitably, possible competition with scalpers.

GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs will go on sale starting September 17th.
