Rainbow Six Siege Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X With Free Upgrade, Major Improvements

Rainbow Six Siege, one of the more successful games of the generation, is coming to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Based on an announcement at Ubisoft Forward, Rainbow Six Seige will see major improvements for the next generation of gaming.

The technology in the next-generation of consoles is a big improvement over current-gen. The PS5 and Xbox Series X will both be able to run games at 4k and at higher frame rates than their respective predecessors, and the next-gen version of Rainbow Six Seige is not simply going to be slapped onto the PS5 and Xbox Series X without enhancements. There are some standards for this upcoming generation of gaming, and the upgraded version of Seige is attempting to meet those standards, as it will be playable at 4k resolution and 120fps.

Players will also be able to upgrade to this newer version for free. Much like the Xbox Smart Delivery idea, Rainbow Six Seige will be a simple download for anyone who currently owns the game, with all the goodies of 4K and 120fps free of charge. It will also be coming to players before the end of the year. The original game released in December of 2015, so perhaps this upgrade will release on its five year anniversary.

There are still some games that will require an additional fee to upgrade to next-gen, but Seige is the latest example of a title that will be extremely easy to bring over from one console to the next. Between free upgrades and things like the ability to finance a new Xbox Series X for only $35 a month, this next generation may be shaping out to be more consumer-friendly than ever.

When it comes to Rainbow Six Seige, it is pleasing to see the game continue into another generation. At some point, the idea of a sequel sounds nice, but Ubisoft is supporting it as a true games as a service type game, and for good reason. Seige has raked in over 10 million sales thus far, making it one of the publisher’s most successful. Until Ubisoft sees a reason to make a new game, it will most likely simply keep adding content to the shooter.

Ubisoft is continuing to push its tactical and team-based first-person shooter, as the 2021 World Cup for Rainbow Six Seige was just announced today as well. With the game moving to the next-generation, players can work towards competing in the event on top-notch hardware, and the tournament is sure to look pretty.

Rainbow Six Siege is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X later in 2020.
