Since he was announced last month, players have been eagerly waiting for news of when they can expect Master Roshi to join the growing roster of fighters in Dragon Ball FighterZ. The old man is a fan favorite that players have been asking for since the game released, and now it seems they won’t have to wait long before they can get their hands on him.
Bandai Namco Esports confirmed via a tweet that players will be able to start playing as Master Roshi on September 16 for Early Access players and September 18 for everyone else. It also included a video giving players a small taste of what they can expect Roshi to play like, showing off moves like his Afterimage Technique and Kamehameha. Roshi is now the third fighter being added as part of Season 3, with the first two characters being Kefla and Ultra Instinct Goku.
News of Master Roshi coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ in less than a week has made the game’s fan base incredibly excited. Despite the game having come out in January of 2018, it still supports a huge and dedicated audience that loves trying to predict which of their favorite Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, or Dragon Ball Super characters will come to the game next.
Bandai Namco certainly seems aware of how dedicated the audience for Dragon Ball FighterZ is. Thanks to its loyal base, Bandai Namco announced a few months ago that the game has sold 5 million units since its launch in 2018. This impressive milestone makes Dragon Ball FighterZ one of the best selling Dragon Ball fighting games with only Xenoverse and Xenoverse 2 rivaling it.
Sales numbers like this don’t come solely from great fan service, although that is something Dragon Ball FighterZ seems to excel at. Bandai Namco and Arc System Works have also been incredibly dedicated to ensuring that players have a great experience when playing online against others. One such way Arc System Works has helped ensure this user experience is by adding a new system where players could face a week long ban if they rage quit during an online match, or longer if they are found disconnecting early frequently.
This level of dedication to Dragon Ball FighterZ hasn’t gone unnoticed in other fandoms. In fact, it inspired one fan to create mock-ups and concepts for what a Naruto game could look like in the Dragon Ball FighterZ style, complete with a character select screen. It seems like if Bandai Namco and Arc System Works can keep up with its level of dedication for various anime series, Dragon Ball FighterZ could be only the beginning of something wonderful.
