Pursuit Weapon Quests Sound Much Better in Destiny 2’s Beyond Light Expansion

Fans of Destiny 2 will always be excited to see new loot find its way into the already stuffed pool of gear for players to hunt down on their adventures through the Solar System. Even more enjoyable is when Bungie is kind enough to include a dedicated way to hunt down this loot through Destiny 2‘s quest systems that take an element of randomness out of rewards for the better.

This latest announcement comes from the most recent This Week at Bungie blog post that is often the primary way that Bungie announces new gear, events, and features coming to Destiny 2. In the extended blog post, Bungie outlined a number of things coming to the game in the upcoming Beyond Light expansion, such as new activity specific armor and the reintroduction of pursuit weapons.

The pursuit weapons aren’t entirely new to Destiny 2, as they’ve appeared in previous seasons of the game since Shadowkeep launched in 2019. These weapons follow a very similar type of loot experience as Vanilla Destiny 2, where the perks on each gun was preset, but now the last two perks are customizable by allowing players to choose from a short list of different options. With Bungie adding these types of weapons with the next expansion, the reasons to be excited for Beyond Light are starting to stack up, especially when looking at the way that these weapons can be found in the game.

For at least one of these pursuit weapons, a sniper that has already been briefly shown off in a Beyond Light reveal, players can find it through a quest that unlocks after the main quest. The caveat for this questline, however, is that it is available at Zavala, Lord Shaxx, and The Drifter, with each quest giver offering the same weapon with different ornaments based on whose quest is completed. It’s unclear from the wording in the blog post if players will be able to take on all three quests at once, but all three can be completed individually in order to collect the many ornaments for the unique weapon.

Maintaining the different levels of RNG has long been one of Bungie’s most complicated tasks between the original Destiny and Destiny 2, and the developer has looked at a number of ways to keep loot pools engaging. While relying completely on RNG works for most players, it eventually leads to situations where some players dump hundreds of hours into each season with multiple runs through Nightfalls and Raids, but little to show for the effort. However, specified rolls can lead to duplicate items becoming more frustrating when they are supposed to be rewarding, which is why including pursuit weapons can be so enticing for players looking for the best of both worlds over the game as a whole.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
