Sony Has PAX Online Event Planned for Next Week | Game Rant

With Microsoft having finally revealed the price tag and release date of the Xbox Series X, as well as the Xbox Series S, attention has turned to Sony as fans wonder when they will do the same. The company has been relatively silent when it comes to announcing firm details about the launch of the PlayStation 5.

However, the company might have something in the works for next week, as a mysterious online PAX panel from the major console manufacturer is apparently being planned for September 18. What the show will center around is yet to be announced, as the event is titled “Sony Holder” on the official PAX schedule as of this writing.

The timing is interesting given Microsoft’s announcement came earlier this week, so it seems like the perfect time for Sony to set the record straight and announce the cost and release date of its next-generation hardware. There are a few other things Sony could stand to clarify as the release of the PlayStation 5 draws closer, including talking more about its day one launch line-up.

While fans know Spider-Man: Miles Morales is on its way, there are few details about what players can expect from it. Meanwhile, numerous rumors have touted the existence of another launch game that’s yet to be revealed. Perhaps this PAX broadcast is a chance for PlayStation to finally unveil what early-adopters can expect when getting their console at the beginning of its life-cycle.

Alongside Sony, a number of studios will be attending the event, with Square Enix, CD Projekt Red, and Nintendo set to show up at PAX. Some of the events on its schedule offer unique insights into the industry’s biggest games and the people who surround them, with there set to be a Legend of Zelda concert and a playthrough of Detroit: Become Human with Quantic Dream across the week-long event. Hopefully, Sony will round things out with something to be remembered, whether it’s a release date and price point or a panel with some of its biggest names.

A leak surrounding the Xbox Series S threw things into chaos for Microsoft this week, and the company wound up finally announcing the Xbox Series X’s price and release date as a result. The console will launch in November for $499, while the more affordable Series S will retail for $299. It’ll be interesting to see how Sony‘s PlayStation 5 compares to Microsoft’s approach.

PAX Online will take place digitally from September 12 to 20, 2020.
