Just a few weeks ago at the DC Fandome online event, Wonder Woman 1984 raised our hype levels with a new trailer (above) that gave us a look at Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah in action. Today, it was announced we’re going to have to wait a bit longer before we can finally see all the movie has to offer. Wonder Woman 1984, which originally was expected to hit on October 3, is now set to release on December 25.
Director Patti Jenkins had this to say about moving the date: “First and foremost let me say how much Gal [Gadot] and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for WW84 couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie. Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”
This isn’t Wonder Woman 1984’s first delay. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused several setbacks and shuffling of release dates. The highly anticipated sequel was originally scheduled for June 5 before slipping to August 14 and then to October 2. Hopefully, this is final date, but it’s hard to know during these unpredictable times and the necessary slowing of theater re-openings.
