Xbox Series X enhancements won’t apply to backwards compatible titles on Xbox Series S, instead, the latter will run the Xbox One S version of the games.
Speaking with Gamespew, according to the spokesperson, Xbox Series X enhancements on backwards compatible titles won’t be applied with the less expensive Xbox Series S model.
Xbox Series S was designed to be the most affordable next-generation console and play next-generation games at 1440P at 60fps.
To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster load times, and Auto HDR.
Basically, current-gen games will still look good on the Series S console, just not as well as they will on Xbox Series X, apparently.
Microsoft revealed more about the console earlier this week when it produced a video detailing the differences between to and the more suped-up Xbox Series X. In the video, the company stated Series S will deliver the same experience as Xbox Series X, just at a reduced rendering resolution.
According to Microsoft, the console features the same 8 core, Zen 2 CPU architecture running at 3.6 GHz and 3.4 GHz with simultaneous multithreading enabled, but the primary difference between it and the Series X is the GPU. Whereas Xbox Series X features native 4K at 60fps with support up to 120fps, Series S is designed to display in 1440p with support for up to 120fps.
Xbox Series S/X are both up for pre-order later this month on September 22 and will launch on November 10.
