With World of Warcraft: Shadowlands set to release at the end of October, players have limited time to earn several Battle for Azeroth achievements that are going away forever. In the upcoming pre-patch, the ‘Mad World’ Feat of Strength which also awards ‘the Faceless One’ title is being removed. However, to earn this soon-to-be gone achievement, both the Horrific Visions of Stormwind and Orgrimmar must be solo cleared by a player wearing 5 Faceless Masks.
According to Wrathion, the Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar is an alternate reality where N’Zoth has corrupted Thrall and the Horde under his influence. Compared to Stormwind, Orgrimmar is the easier one to complete although it’s still a difficult task even for the prepared. Because the 5 masks complicate a run while making all enemies stronger, this guide will give an optimized walkthrough that assumes all upgrades are unlocked to triumph over the various areas and bosses.
After entering the vision, immediately walk to the left and kill the Voidbound Shaman first which should proc Gift of the Titans, then grab 1-2 more packs including the Honor Guards before AOEing them down and interrupting their fear cast. Afterwards, check the second building from the left to know which potion is bad and what other 4 colors are safe to drink. Clear out trash on both sides of Grommash Hold or skip them using stealth or invisibility potions before heading left up the stairs.
Once the player moves into this area, they need to deal with Decimator Shiq’voth before proceeding further. Drag nearby adds closer before killing them to proc Gift of the Titans, then burst the mini-boss. Simply move to the side when Surging Fist or Decimator is cast to avoid the damage and knockbacks. Once the mini-boss is dead, the player then must interact with 4 totems throughout the area. Each totem is guarded by several enemies such as Greater Void Elementals that casts Void Buffet which applies a stackable 100% shadow damage taken debuff.
Take down each totem pack one at a time, focusing the Shaman or Void Elementals first. If Gift of the Titans procs, drag all trash between totem 2 and totem 3 together before AOEing them down. Finish the mobs at totem 4 then instead of fighting the last trash group, loop behind the building to the right where the boss will be.
Besides its abilities, the Oblivion Elemental will only melee players for light damage. The Despair waves spawn towards the player’s current location so keep moving to reposition the boss. Note that DoTs and pets will continue to deal damage while pacified by Hopelessness.
The next area only requires killing enough enemies to fill up a bar to summon the final boss, but there is a K’thir Dominator add that must be prioritized since its Touch of the Abyss cast will stun and heavily damage if not kill the player.
Furthermore, there are 2 mini-bosses which must be killed to completely fill the bar. When fighting the Voidcrazed Hulk, move out of the way of Explosive Leap after being thrown and stop casting while Howling in Pain is about to go off. For the Coagulated Horror, stay out of the Sanguine Residue void zones that spawn underneath the World of Warcraft player and strafe to the side to dodge Visceral Fluid’s frontal AOE. Note that triggering Gift of the Titans on the trash before either mini-boss will trivialize the fight.
Once the bar is filled, Vez’okk the Lightless will spawn near the entrance. Dodge the Defiled Ground cone and the void zone it leaves behind. Stay still when Ring of Chaos is cast until the circle of orbs floats outward. Finally save AOE abilities for the adds that spawn from Unleash Corruption 3 times through the encounter.
In this zone, the player must inspect 5 different Orgrimmar buildings for survivors. But first, the Annihilator Lak’hal mini-boss must be defeated. When Orb of Annihilation is cast, immediately move away from the swirling ground marker and make sure the Dark Force cast doesn’t push the player into their own void zones or more mobs. After the mini-boss, talk to Garona and start checking buildings while clearing trash groups. Be aware that there is an additional mob hiding in the first building on the right.
Once all the buildings are evacuated, Inquisitor Gnshal becomes active. Dodge the Void Torrent casts by using movement speed abilities, CC immunity, or standing behind the nearby tree stump. Save burst abilities for Cries of the Void to break the shield and avoid massive sanity drain. In most cases, Gift of the Titans won’t be available during the fight so using a Sanity Restoration Orb can negate the first Void Torrent if the player can’t dodge it.
The final and most difficult area in Orgrimmar has one objective: kill Rexxar. Immediately after entering the zone, Misha will be standing in the player’s way. Move out of the periodic void zones that spawn from Desperate Retching and stay away when Maddening Roar is cast. Afterwards there are plenty of Aqir mobs in the way that apply Aqir Mind Toxin which is a nasty DoT and stun at 5 stacks so the player has to dodge, CC, and wait until they drop off. However, there is a well-known way to skip most of the trash straight to Rexxar by heading left through an area that would normally kill the player as shown by user World of Zeus in his YouTube video below.
Otherwise, there is an Aqir Mindhunter mini-boss further along the path that also uses Aqir Mind Toxin. Dodge the frontal Toxic Breath and AOE Toxic Volley casts to avoid more stacks than necessary. If stunned, be careful not to get knocked back into other trash groups, void zones and CC, or even outside the zone barrier.
Once Rexxar is engaged, he will throw down several Mind Traps that stun the player if moved over. As Rexxar’s HP gets lower, boars will join the fight by charging in and casting Void Quills that drain sanity. Ideally, use a sanity orb before the pull and whittle down Rexxar until the first and second boar join the fight, then focus them. Gift of the Titans should trigger from either boar’s death, allowing the player to burst down Rexxar while ignoring the other ones. Note that Stampeding Corruption will be cast once Rexxar is low health, so just make sure to dodge the moving monsters if he isn’t killed fast enough.
Thrall isn’t a difficult fight, but he has Hopelessness, Defiled Ground, and Cries of the Void in addition to his own Surging Darkness AOE. 2 Void Boars are also present, so pop a sanity orb and focus both down at the start of the fight. Gift of the Titans will likely proc from killing the boars, which means the player has a free window to burst Thrall while ignoring sanity drain. Dodge Defiled Ground’s cone, grab the Hopelessness Orb, break the Cries of the Void shield, and move out of Surging Darkness zones. Keep doing the fight mechanics and Thrall will eventually fall, completing the 5 mask Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar solo.
