Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Dev Responds to Overpowered Tank Concerns

While the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer gameplay has received plenty of positive comments from fans thus far, a few players are worried about some specific aspects of the game. One of those features is the game’s vehicles, with a Black Ops Cold War developer recently responding to fan concerns.

Treyarch is getting a short break from defending Black Ops Cold War’s new scorestreak system, as it now must contest with questions regarding some of the vehicles in the new Call of Duty. While vehicles have been seen through killstreaks and some of the large-scale modes like Ground War and Warzone, seeing them spawn around the map randomly in normal multiplayer play is a fresh idea. As it turns out, not every CoD fan is excited about it.

In a Reddit post praising Armada, one of the Black Ops Cold War launch maps, user Breaded-Butter commented that “the unbreakable tanks were probably already nerfed” since the version of the game played in the reveal was an old Alpha. The user gets a response from a Treyarch dev going by the name FoxhoundFPS, who echoes the adjustment statement. He also states that “tanks can go down very quickly when focused” as players “can spec weapons out to be anti-tank”.

FoxhoundFPS ends his response by stating that there are “no more excuses” for players not having an anti-vehicle class ready to go as classes can now be edited within matches. Still, not everyone believes that Black Ops Cold War’s new vehicles are fair, with one player responding with a legitimate argument against the current version of tanks. The player states that vehicles that spawn without players earning them should not be so strong or require player focus to bring down anyway, as no work was put into acquiring them.

While the debate remained extremely civil and respectful, both sides have an argument to make here. There has already been concern that Black Ops Cold War will reward unskilled players with its scorestreaks, so strong vehicles that do not need to be earned can certainly add to that stigma. At the same time, FoxhoundFPS and the Treyarch team’s argument that players can easily make a class if tanks are causing problems is a sound one. After all, a tank doing no damage and being nerfed too far defeats the purpose.

The Treyarch developer mentioned that tweaks can and will be made to vehicles often, which is by no means surprising to hear. When tanks are used during the Black Ops Cold War beta on October 8th, they will likely be far weaker than they were in the Alpha version.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available November 13th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrades will also be available.
