Among Us has taken gaming by storm, as it isn’t often that a quirky, two year old game such as this makes such a dramatic come back. The reason for this is plain, the game is simple and enjoyable and represents much of what people need right now. When first starting Among Us, players will pick a name that will be assigned to them for every game they play from then on, but this name can actually be changed. Thankfully, doing so is incredibly simple if the player knows where to look.
Name can be an important thing in Among Us for a couple of reasons. For one, the name displayed on the screen is the main way players will identify other players, and can play a huge role in communication. It can also be used to create fun and hectic on the fly game modes.
In order to change their name, players will first need to enter into the Online menu of Among Us. From here, before selecting to host or join a match, look towards the top of the screen and notice the box where the player’s name is displayed. Clicking on this will allow the player to enter in a new name, permanently changing their default name for all games after that. This can be changed at any time before or after a match and as many times as the player wants.
There are a lot of practical uses for this in InnerSloth’s successful party game, as names can often help other players identify which of their friends they are with, but it can also be used to the opposite effect. If everyone picks a random name, players will never be certain who is who, making the game much harder. Another fun option is to have everyone change their name to a color other than the color of their character, as this can make things very confusing and a lot more hectic.
Despite how simple this is, many players tend to miss the option to change their name and simply assume it is a permanent thing after the decision is made early on. Thankfully, this is not the case, and after the player learns how to do this once, it is incredibly easy to change one’s name to something else again in the future.
