Borderlands 3: Every FL4K Trapper Skill Revealed So Far

FL4K is the Beastmaster class character in Borderlands 3, and fans of this Vault Hunter just got a big info dump that gives more insight into how the character could be changing in some upcoming DLC.

Premium content has been announced for Borderlands 3 that gives each of the characters a new skill tree they can put points in to unlock all new actions and passive abilities. FL4K gets the Trapper skill tree, and some interesting new skills have been revealed so far.

Gravity Snare is the tree’s action skill, creating a trap that knocks up and stuns enemies. If FL4K picks up the trap before the 16 second duration is finished, the player is refunded a portion of the remaining duration, making it a good ability for saving resources while diving into some of Borderlands 3‘s hidden sidequests.

The new skill tree gives FL4K a brand new pet, this time a Hyperion Loaderbot, sometimes called a Loader for short. The way the pet behaves in combat depends on some key choices made in the new Trapper skill tree.

The Trapper skill tree helps make FL4K a viable tank. The first skill is a Mini ION Loader bot companion, which gives 30% increased resistance to elemental damage. The ION Loader also comes with a Shock Sniper Rifle and Homing Shock Orbs that can be combined to create a Shock Nova, as well as giving the Loader a eye-laser.

This skill upgrades FL4K’s Loader into a BUL Loader, giving it a shotgun instead of a new sniper rifle and the ability to turn into a bulldozer that can charge at enemies and knock them into the air. It also increases shield capacity by 20%.

This upgrades the Loader into a WAR Loader, which replaces its sniper rifle with an Incendiary Shotgun and Grenades. Issuing an attack with this Loader will cause it to fire a barrage of missiles, and having this skill will increase FL4K’s fire rate by 12% for players who want to focus on DPS.

This action skill increases the duration and radius of FL4K’s trap ability. Trap duration is increased by 25% while the radius of the traps are doubled, making this a must-have on the new Borderlands skill tree.

Better Toys is a passive ability that decreases the shield recharge delay and increases recharge rate for both FL4K and their pet. The extent of this increase depends on the rank, but the first rank is established to increase recharge rate by 6% and decrease recharge delay by -8%.

This is a new passive ability which makes a change to FL4K’s Loader pet. When the pet would usually go into Fight For You Life, it now turns into an EXP Loader and runs towards enemies before exploding to deal massive damage. While the Loader already has infinite respawns, this ability also reduces the respawn time of the Loader by 50%, though some players might find it hard to sacrifice their loyal Loaders over and over again.

Take This! gives FL4K’s Loader a copy of the player’s shield. With so many different legendary shields in Borderlands 3, this could have one of the biggest effects of the entire skill tree.

Success Imminent is a passive ability that causes FL4K and their pet to create a radiation nova if FL4K or their pet’s shield breaks or is filled. The damage dealt increases with each of the 5 available skill ranks for the player’s FL4K build.

This passive ability skill reduces pet damage when FL4K’s shields are full by 75%, again helping to turn FL4K into a viable tank by boosting the survivability of both the character and their pet for the Beastmaster class in Borderlands 3.

Fuzzy Math is a passive ability that means that whenever FL4K or their pet gets a critical hit part of their health and shields are restored at a percentage determined by the rank of the skill. The first rank restores 6% of max shields, which could be useful for facing down enemies in Borderlands 3‘s rumored new game modes.

This passive ability restores a portion of FL4K and their pet’s shield whenever FL4K issues a command to their Loader. The amount of shield restored is dependent on rank, starting by increasing the player’s max shield capacity by 10% in the new Borderlands 3 skill tree.

This passive ability increases shield capacity by 100% for a short time and begins recharging FL4K’s shield right away. It only has a 16 second cooldown in Borderlands 3 and could be very useful for keeping shields up in the character’s newly available role.

These new changes already make FL4K a far more flexible character in Borderlands 3 and among the other new skill trees could inspire some fans of the game to embark upon another playthrough in their new roles. Although it is known that the DLC will be paid content, a release date has not yet been announced. Nonetheless, many fans will be excited to take on tanking with the Trapper skill tree in Borderlands 3.

Borderlands 3 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox One X versions are in development.
