Borderlands 3 Krieg DLC Features A Detailed SpongeBob Easter Egg

Borderlands 3, like any other game in the series, is filled to the brim with various easter eggs. From small nods such as weapon names to entirely unique enemies and locations, Borderlands 3 fans can find references everywhere. That trend continues in the Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck expansion, as none other than SpongeBob can be found lurking within Krieg’s mind.

While fans were quick to catch a nod to Tales from the Borderlands in the Krieg-themed DLC, another easter egg was also found. Within the Castle Crimson location, players will find an odd fleshy building with a Goliath standing outside if they take a small path to the right of the main story objective. While a bit grosser and rounder than the original, the building is undeniably meant to be SpongeBob’s pineapple from the show. With windows and the door in the same position as well as spikes in place of leaves on the roof, the Borderlands version of the home is spot-on.

YouTuber Glitching Queen was quick to find the easter egg, posting a detailed guide of what players can find at SpongeBob’s home. Despite the body type of the goliath enemy type, the one standing outside the house is not Patrick Star, the beloved character that is getting his own spinoff show. Instead, the goliath is SpongeBob himself, with the character being bright yellow and having the silly name SpongeBoss BulletPants. Like other goliaths, he can evolve, becoming a bullet sponge that sees his name changed to SpongeBoss NoChance.

SpongeBob is wielding an extremely in-character weapon, as he makes use of the bubble blaster from the Bounty of Blood expansion. The character also has bubbles coming out of his body, completing the look of SpongeBoss. While this would normally be a cool, in-depth easter egg on its own, the enemy also has an exclusive weapon drop.

The weapon is a legendary variant of another DLC gun called the P.A.T., which is a reference to a questline from the DLC that is already becoming popular among fans. The name could also be a reference to Patrick, considering the enemy that drops it. Many fans will likely find this easter egg while completing the crew challenges in Castle Crimson, which is a good thing given how much work the Gearbox team seems to have put into it.

With the high Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated sales on top of this easter egg, SpongeBob has been making quite the impact on the gaming industry this year. If Borderlands fans want to see the character in-game, all they must do is jump into the Krieg DLC and search for a gross, meaty pineapple.

Borderlands 3 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrades will be available.
