God of War Fans Think Director is Teasing Sequel Reveal

God of War (2018) is one of the most successful and influential video games to come out within the last several years. After winning numerous game of the year awards and achieving widespread commercial success, fans of the series have wondered when will there be another God of War.

God of War Director Cory Barlog has become a prominent member of the gaming industry and built a large presence online. Since the release of God of War, Barlog has become practically a household name in the video game industry. A tweet from the director had many fans hoping for news of a God of War sequel, though fans shouldn’t get their hopes up.

Earlier today, Barlog tweeted a gif from Indiana Jones. The subtitle of the gif outlines a classic line from the film, “they’re digging in the wrong place.” This led many to believe that Barlog was teasing a God of War sequel reveal, perhaps slated for the PlayStation 5 showcase happening Wednesday, though, Barlog didn’t stop there.

Barlog later sent out a subsequent Tweet saying “…it was Venus all along.” This caused many fans a great deal of confusion in terms of how both tweets could relate to each other. Many thought that Venus could potentially be in reference to the sci-fi game the Barlog teased back in November, though ultimately, Barlog was likely talking about the recent news of evidence of life being found on the planet Venus that has circulated today.

This essentially means all of this was just wishful thinking on the part of God of War fans. After all, everyone expected God of War 2 to be revealed during the PS5 reveal event, but nothing came of that. Not to mention the fact that God of War only released two years ago after being in development for five years. It seems somewhat unlikely that a full sequel would be revealed in such a short amount of time.

All of this being said, there is hope in terms of a new God of War game. With the sheer amount of demand for a new game, the developers are certainly aware of how much people want a sequel. Plus, there is additional story content that wasn’t extrapolated upon during God of War, such as what happened to Kratos in-between the third game and the 2018 game. Hopefully, some sort of update is shown during the upcoming event, but that’s extremely unlikely.
