Overwatch Getting Tracer’s Comic Challenge and New Comic Book

A new official Overwatch comic has been released starring Lena Oxton, better known as by her code name of Tracer. This has been the latest Overwatch comic since the release of the Retribution comic back in 2018.

To celebrate the release of this brand new comic, Overwatch will be holding a limited-time challenge event that will be starting on September 15th, 2020. This challenge is called Tracer’s Comic Challenge and will allow players to get a brand new skin for Tracer that will be exclusive to this event.

Players will only have until September 28th to complete the challenges and grab the skin before it possibly disappears forever. The new comic however can be read on Overwatch‘s official website with no time limit at all.

The new Overwatch comic is one of five planned issues with them all focusing on a story line starring Tracer and the Omnics that live in London. This storyline takes place before the events of the Alive animated short and Winston recalling the remaining members of Overwatch, so Tracer is living her life while using her time powers for good deeds.

Something that may surprise players and readers is in how the Tracer skin that players can earn through this challenge isn’t in this initial comic at all. Instead, this skin is based on the idea of comics themselves. To show this, Tracer’s leggings with this skin are plastered with comic panels from this new comic with bright pink accents to give off a pop art look. Additionally, there are various comic sound effect decals on her arm pieces. Due to the meta nature of this skin, it likely won’t appear in a future issue as some kind of reveal and is only really in the game to celebrate the comic’s release.

Unlike the other comics released for Overwatch, this comic is created by Dark Horse Comics. It is unknown if physical versions or a full trade of this mini-series will be released, but it looks to be that all issues will be released for free as pdf files on the official Overwatch website.

It is unknown when the rest of the comics in this mini-series will be released or if there will be any kind of set schedule to their release before Overwatch 2 is finally released in some capacity. Until then, players will just have to wait to see where this new story will go next.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
