The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been making waves recently, as many fans are unhappy with the game’s graphics. The Prince of Persia Remake was revealed last week as one of the major announcements from the Ubisoft Forward event.
The Prince of Persia Remake is set to launch in January 2021, so there’s still plenty of time until the game launches for the developers to tweak and polish the entire package. Fortunately, a recent graphics comparison image from Reddit showcases just how much the graphics have already progressed from the initial trailer reveal of the Sands of Time Remake during the Ubisoft Forward event.
As mentioned above, the Ubisoft Forward live stream that aired late last week announced a handful of major projects that Ubisoft is developing. One of those announcements showcased a trailer for Prince of Persia Remake. The original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was a reboot of the franchise which released back in 2003 and was beloved by many fans and critics alike. While the reveal trailer for the remake was met with plenty of positivity there are plenty of fans who were a bit unsatisfied with the game’s graphics showcased in the reveal trailer.
Following the outcry from worried fans, one of the Prince of Persia developers addressed the graphics complaints, saying the team made specific decisions to try to differentiate the game from other fantasy games out right now. While the answer shed light on why the team stylized the game the way it did, it didn’t do much to assuage some fans’ concerns. Thankfully, plenty of new information has been revealed about the Sands of Time Remake, including brand new, updated screenshots from a later build of the game. When comparing the updated screenshots to the graphics in the reveal trailer, the difference is almost night and day.
The updated Sands of Time screenshots look much better than the graphics showcased in the initial reveal trailer. The details on the characters, their clothing, and the environment appear to be refined, as well as tweaking the overall cartoon-ish style of the game. While it’s unfortunate that the shift to a more detailed and realistic art style might upset fans who actually enjoyed the graphics in the initial style, it is hard to argue that the updated graphics in the game’s alpha build aren’t an improvement. The added detail, shading, and lighting details make a big difference.
There’s plenty of time before Sands of Time Remake launches in January, so the game will likely receive much more polish before release. Interestingly, there were actually snippets of the game’s updated alpha build present throughout the initial reveal trailer. Of course, it’s also important to mention that plenty of fans are just happy the game is being remade at all. Hopefully, the Sands of Time Remake lives up to the original.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is set to release on January 21, 2021, for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
