In an interview with the Polish edition of Elle Man, Chris Hemsworth suggested he’d like to stay on in the iconic role of Norse thunder god Thor after the upcoming Thor: Blood and Thunder.
When asked if he would be passing on the role to a female incarnation of Thor, Hemsworth answered “Are you crazy ?! I’m not going into any retirement period, Thor is way too young for that. He’s only 1500 years old! It’s definitely not a film that I say goodbye to this brand. At least I hope so.”
In the interview, Hemsworth talked about what it was like to be with his family for the longest time in nearly 10 years during the pandemic, saying “thanks to the pandemic, I had a chance to see if we really like each other. Are we able to stay together at home for more than a few days and not kill each other? And you know what? We’re all still alive! Although there were crisis moments.” Hemsworth also discovered a new side to himself thanks to lockdown, “it turned out that I really like cooking. I mean, I knew it before, but now I have had the opportunity to fully develop my culinary potential.”
With shooting postponed from Aug 2020 until next year thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Thor: Love and Thunder will reunite Hemsworth with Thor: Ragnarok writer/director Taika Waititi and composer Mark Mothersbaugh. Also returning are Ragnarok co-star Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman as love interest Jane Foster who is set to become the Goddess of Thunder. There’s currently no word on whether or not Tom Hiddleston will be returning as the trickster Loki, but given he’s got his own series on Disney+ on the way, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see the divine brothers reunited on the silver screen.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to release in Feb 2022.
