Though a specific release date has yet to be confirmed, the newest Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC, The Crown Tundra, is slated to release soon. Yesterday, Nintendo unveiled a trailer to get fans amped up for the new content.
Pokemon has done away with a third accompanying game such as Pokemon Emerald with the current generation of main-series Pokemon games. Instead of using the same pattern of enhanced version releases as Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, or direct sequels like with Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, Game Freak decided to go follow in the footsteps of other modern RPGs. Sword and Shield now has its own DLC that introduces many of its own unique elements.
Set in the Galar Region of the Pokemon universe, the snowy southern area coming in the Crown Tundra DLC is based on Scotland. Cold snowscapes will be the theme of the addition, centering around the legendary Pokemon Calyrex, which resembles a floating deer. Crown Tundra will introduce other new legendary Pokemon as well, including Regieleki and Regidrago, as shown in the newly unveiled trailer. These two monsters are additions to the other three Legendary Titans first seen in Generation Three.
While one DLC for Sword and Shield, called The Isle of Armor, has already been released, the second DLC expansion has not been given a formal release date. The new trailer, which was uploaded by Nintendo’s South Africa Distributor YouTube channel, confirmed it to be on track for Autumn 2020, as well as showing off some core mechanics and features that will come with the newest DLC.
In The Crown Tundra, there will be plenty of new Wild Area with open-world elements for players to roam free. First seen in Sword and Shield, the upcoming DLC will also feature more Pokemon Dens, and based on what’s shown in the trailer, it looks like there may be a lot of them to be discovered. By going inside of these Dens, players can expect to see both new and returning Pokemon from past generations, including Pokemon in their original forms and Galarian forms, such as with the bird trio: Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.
For those who own the expansion pass, they will get access to Crown Tundra automatically upon release, but it has also been suggested that a third wave of DLC for Sword and Shield may be on its way.
Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now for Nintendo Switch.
