Xbox Series S Retail Box Revealed | Game Rant

Last week, Microsoft revealed the Xbox Series X retail box, and now the Xbox Series S retail box has been unveiled as well.

The Xbox Series S retail box seems to be much smaller than the Xbox Series X box, which makes sense, as the console itself is a fraction of the size. In fact, Microsoft has called the Xbox Series S the smallest Xbox ever. The Xbox Series S box art prominently displays the large, circular vent on the front of the machine, alongside a white Xbox controller. It has a green and white color scheme to reflect the Xbox brand, and includes some important technical information as well.

On the bottom of the Xbox Series S retail box, players will notice some important symbols and numbers. The first is 120 FPS, which promotes the console’s ability to play games at 120 frames per second. This is double, or in some cases, even 4x faster than current-generation games. The next symbol is a V-shape that represents the Xbox’s velocity architecture, which is essentially marketing jargon to hype the console’s ability to load games extremely fast.

The third symbol on the Xbox Series S box art is a disc with a line through it. This is to indicate that the Xbox Series S doesn’t play discs, which is something that may admittedly confuse some consumers at first. After all, the vast majority of consumers are used to game consoles releasing with disc drives, and that transition may be jarring at first. In any case, those that purchase the Xbox Series S should know that the console is designed to be an all-digital experience.

And finally, the Xbox Series S 512 GB SSD is also listed on the box art. 512 GB SSD seems pretty small, especially when one considers the sheer file size of many games nowadays, but players will have the option to expand the storage. Pricing information for new SSD cards has yet to be revealed, but that information should come to light as we get closer to the Xbox Series S’ launch date.

The Xbox Series S will be capable of playing next-generation games, but it won’t be able to display them at true 4k resolution. The $299 Xbox Series S price point may still make the console a worthwhile investment for consumers, however, especially when one takes into account the financial hardship that many are facing in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. It will be interesting to see which next-generation Xbox console comes out on top this holiday season.
