Crysis Remastered is finally releasing on PC and consoles this week after a fan backlash caused a length delay to the game. The Nintendo Switch version has been out for some time now with successful results, while other console players have been eagerly awaiting their chance to return to the classic first person shooter.
After the first trailers for Crysis Remastered leaked earlier this year, fans weren’t happy with the new look of the game, particularly because Crysis was once known as the benchmark for gaming hardware. Crytek pushed back Crysis Remastered‘s release date to allow more time for polishing, and the studio has since been plugging its new technical standards to satisfy fan concerns. The game has certainly received a positive reaction for its Nintendo Switch rendition, but whether it can continue to hold up on consoles and PC is another matter.
Crytek has released an 8K tech trailer for Crysis Remastered, which compares side-by-side footage of the remaster with the original Crysis. The video can also be viewed in 8K by manually changing the quality in the video player settings. The trailer shows off some of top of the line processes Crysis Remastered is using, including SVOGI, real time reflections, rippling caustics, state of the art depth of field, high quality textures, enhanced particle and explosion effects, ray tracing, and a dedicated 8K mode.
Despite concerns over previous trailers, the side by side footage makes it clear that Crysis has come a long way since its release in 2007. Making use of cutting edge techniques such as ray tracing and 8K make Crysis Remastered one of the most advanced upcoming games, and it seems to have delivered on its promise to upscale the game quality. The PC specs for Crysis Remastered were recently revealed and the game definitely won’t be as demanding as its first release back in 2007. However, those wanting to push the boundaries will be able to try out ‘Can it run Crysis?’ mode, in a nod to the famous meme, which is a high end graphics mode for PC.
Crysis Remastered will be released on current gen consoles this week, but it’s unclear whether the game will be optimized for next-gen consoles as well, further down the track. It certainly has the specs to make use of the PS5 or Xbox Series X’s processing powers and with the top end TVs and monitors now offering 8K resolution, Crysis Remastered would be the perfect game to push the bar in visual technology.
Crysis Remastered is out now on Nintendo Switch and will release on September 18 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
