Bungie Has Bad News for Destiny 2 Players Chasing Chronicler Title

As Destiny 2 begins to wrap up its longest season yet in time for the upcoming Beyond Light extension, players are scrambling to complete their weekly quests in time for the turnover. While some players are running through the weekly raids to collect the loot they need, others are rushing to complete their lore book collections in time for Destiny 2‘s next sprawling storyline. However, due to the limitations of some weekly missions, players are discovering that they may never catch up in time.

When Destiny 2 players collect every entry from all 10 of the required lore books, they can earn the Chronicler title, which comes with a special seal and username tag. However, because the number of entries per mission can range from 10 to 25, completing the mission can take weeks to complete. One of the most demanding obstacles in collecting the Chronicler’s seal is the Truth to Power lore book, which has 11 lore book entries to collect. However, players can only acquire this lore once a week per account. To make matters more difficult, players can only add to the lore book on weeks where the Dreaming City’s curse is in full effect, making them run the mission once every three weeks.

Unfortunately, Bungie will be removing the Chronicler title at the end of the Season of Arrivals. Following this announcement, several players immediately realized that the Truth to Power lore book’s time-consuming run will make it impossible for them to earn the title in time for its departure to the Destiny Content Vault.

Although several fans on Twitter and Reddit have called for Bungie to remove the Truth to Power requirement, Bungie’s Community Manager dmg04 stated on Twitter that Bungie would not be changing the Truth to Power ritual to make it easier for players to earn lore, or be removing the requirement from the Chronicler title, stating that it would end up remaining “out of arms’ reach” for those unlucky players. Moving forward, dmg04 promised that Bungie would improve communication with players on when it planned to sunset certain parts of Destiny 2.

Players largely expressed confusion and disappointment with Bungie’s decision. While several Twitter users announced that they personally would be unable to collect the title in time, some fans on Reddit questioned why Bungie would sunset the title in the first place, considering that most of the levels this title requires are not disappearing from Destiny 2. Others were less sympathetic and pointed out that the Forsaken content the Chronicler title is from has been available for over two years at this point.

Whether or not Destiny 2 players procrastinated in earning the Chronicler’s seal, it is disappointing to hear that Bungie will not change the game’s requirements to help fans collect this achievement in time. However, Bungie does seem determined to better notify its fans when it will vault content, pointing to recent updates on its website. Hopefully, these extra steps will prevent a similar problem for completionists in the future.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
