Cyberpunk 2077 Hasn’t Shown Some Important Companions Yet

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most highly anticipated games in recent memory. If the game is anything like CD Projekt Red’s record-breaking Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 could be a front-runner for game of the year. CD Projekt Red has drip-fed information about the epic RPG, but apparently there is much about the game that hasn’t yet been shared.

In a Q&A with the Russian community of the game, Philipp Weber, the title’s quest designer, shared information about Cyberpunk 2077. Among the interesting tidbits were details on how companions work in the game, and how the developers have many surprises in store for the gamers.

Weber claims that players will be able to enjoy many different quests with varied characters in Cyberpunk 2077, all who have important roles in the overall story of the game. CD Projekt Red has shared some news about who Jackie Welles is in Cyberpunk 2077, but apparently there are quite a few companions just like him. It’s interesting to find out that a character that has been so featured may simply be one of many focal “frenemies” in the game.

Weber says that the characters in the game are fluid. Players will be able to impact the story based on decisions made with each companion in the game. It is possible to have friends or lovers in the game, and it is also possible that that same character becomes an enemy instead. Weber says that it was important to the development team that players are able to create their own story–all with companions such as Jackie along for the ride. Some of this sounds similar to The Witcher 3, which CD Projekt Red is trying to outdo with Cyberpunk 2077.

Some of these characters, depending on your choices, you might like and they might like you. And some of those characters might become your enemies. We are making a role-playing game, it’s all up to you.

For a game that was first revealed back in 2013, Cyberpunk 2077  is still holding quite a few secrets, and that’s exciting. It’s remarkable that CD Projekt Red has maintained the hype for the game with such a long development period. It certainly helps that The Witcher 3 is so beloved, as it has created goodwill for the developer to take all the time they need to make an amazing title.

With Cyberpunk 2077 being delayed multiple times, the hope is that the game has finally settled into the release date in November. And when the game is finally able to be played, the details on how many companions are in Cyberpunk 2077 and how they impact the story and gameplay will be learned.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch on November 19, 2020, for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will release later for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
