The Nintendo GameCube has been trending on Twitter, with many gamers sharing fond memories of the sixth-generation console approximately 19 years after it first released in Japan.
Nintendo fans recently learned that Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy on the soon-to-be-released Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection are emulated, rather than ported, versions of the titles. This has also led to a lot of discussion as plenty of series fans are frustration, contributing to the Gamecube’s Twitter trending status.
It’s not all bad, however. With the GameCube trending, many have taken this moment to share some of their fondest memories with the Nintendo titles, reflecting on past experiences with the games. The Animal Crossing Community Twitter account, for example, shared that today is the 18th year anniversary for the GameCube game. Other memories have been more general, like Twitter user CherrytonP5 sharing old McDonalds GameCube console set-ups.
With the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, fans have gotten a chance to look back at past Nintendo consoles and remember their experiences. Though the Nintendo GameCube is currently trending, the new release is likely to give many fans nostalgic trips back to the days of the Nintendo 64 and Wii as well.
With the realization that Super Mario 3D All-Stars is running emulated versions of the games, many players have begun to speculate what this might mean for the future of Switch Online services for Nintendo 64 games and beyond. Some fans believe that since Super Mario 64 is up and running on an emulator, this means that the console is bound to receive additional 64 games through its online service. Though this isn’t necessarily a guarantee, it is certainly a possibility.
Some fans also believe the Nintendo GameCube has a shot at receiving this treatment as well, and many are taking the GameCube’s current trending status as means to pitch which games they’d like to make it to the Switch next after Sunshine. While many fans seem to be annoyed at Nintendo for using emulation, others are undoubtedly excited to see where this emulation may end up going in the future.
The Nintendo GameCube first released back in 2001. Thus, it’s understandable why so many fans active on social media feel so much nostalgia for the GameCube as it nears its twenty-year anniversary.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars releases September 18 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
