As players begin their time with Spelunky 2, the punishingly difficult new title from developers Mossmouth and BlitWorks, they may find it exceedingly difficult to make it through even the game’s first biome. However, with practice fans will begin reaching some of Spelunky 2‘s later stages, and indeed they may become curious about just how many levels they must complete in order to reach the game’s conclusion.
To put things simply, players that want to see the game’s end credits and unlock a special playable character will need to complete stage 6-4. However, this is not to say that there are only six levels in Spelunky 2, as there are instances where fans can select between different biomes on their way to the end. Additionally, some of the worlds in the game have their very own sub-worlds in this new roguelike, and the following list will sum up what is currently known about the levels in Spelunky 2:
- 1. Dwelling
- 2a. Jungle & Black Market – Spelunky 2 players that go through the left door at the bottom of 1-4 will be sent to the Jungle. Fans can access the Black Market through this world with the assistance of the Udjat Eye, which can be obtained in the Dwelling after finding a golden key.
- 2b. Volcana & Vlad’s Lair – Players that go through the right door at the bottom of 1-4 will be sent to Volcana in this critically-acclaimed game. Fans can use the Udjat Eye in this biome to activate a drill that will uncover a door surrounded by red bricks that leads to Vlad’s Lair.
- 3. Olmec’s Lair
- 4a. Tide Pool – Players that go through the first door on the right in 3-1 will be sent to the Tide Pool.
- 4b. Temple of Anubis & City of Gold – Players that go through the door below the entrance to the Tide Pool in 3-1 will be sent to the Temple of Anubis. Platformer fans can use the Scepter that is dropped by Anubis and the Hedjet, which can be purchased in the Black Market, to access the City of Gold.
- 5. Ice Cave
- 6. Neo Babylon & Tiamat’s Throne
To note, the PS4 trophies point to there being at least two more levels, or perhaps sub-levels, in Spelunky 2: the Sunken City and Cosmic Ocean. However, players are still determining exactly how to access these areas, and visiting them is certainly not a requirement for reaching the end credits. Even still, fans that want to see everything that Spelunky 2 has to offer should keep their eyes peeled for any secret levels not detailed in this guide.
Spelunky 2 is available now on PlayStation 4 and will release on Steam on September 29, 2020.
