Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man: Miles Morales had one of the biggest showcases during today’s PlayStation 5 event. After displaying PS5 gameplay with Miles Morales, the segment ended with a slate saying it would launch “holiday 2020.” However, Insomniac followed-up on Twitter by announcing the game will be a launch title for the PS5, while also releasing on the PS4.
The price and release date for the PS5 were announced during today’s event, letting fans know that the $499 console and its $399 digital-only edition will be available in select regions starting November 12, and in the rest of the world on November 19. Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available alongside them, and there is also a free next-gen upgrade path for late adopters, according to the PlayStation Blog.
Players can also buy an “Ultimate Edition” of the game on PS5 that includes a voucher code for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered, which features the original game from 2018 as well as its three-part “The City That Never Sleeps” DLC campaign. The remastered edition includes improved graphical fidelity, support for PS5 features like haptic feedback in the DualSense controller, as well as new suits and trophies to collect.
The Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition will cost $69.99, according to PlayStation Blog, making it one of many next-generation titles trending toward higher prices. Other launch titles for the PS5 with this distinction include Bluepoint Games’ remake of Demon’s Souls and Lucid Games’ vehicular combat game Destruction AllStars based on another blog post discussing console and accessory prices.
Fans of Insomniac’s previous Spider-Man game and those who were on the fence about this follow-up title may be more prepared to jump on it following the seven-minute gameplay showcase today. Not only was it confirmed that Tinkerer is a villain in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but the game as a whole also appears to lean into Miles’ special abilities like bio-electric venom and camouflage.
A number of other games were also shown off during the event, from previously-announced titles like Deathloop and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to brand-new offerings like Final Fantasy 16 and a teaser for the sequel to Santa Monica Studio’s God of War (2018). Now that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X have official prices, release dates, and launch titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it will be interesting to see how the holiday season shakes out for these next-generation consoles.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available on PS4 and PS5 starting November 12.
