Confirmation concerning Spider-Man: Miles Morales‘ supervillain has finally arrived. Insomniac Games revealed that the Tinkerer would indeed be the big-bad that Miles faces in his upcoming origin story. Insomniac also touched a little more on the conflict taking place in the game, and in doing so, may have possibly revealed what fans can expect out of its conclusion.
Insomniac Games’ Creative Director Brian Horton made the reveal during September’s PlayStation 5 showcase event. Spider-Man: Miles Morales received a new gameplay-demo trailer here, and while providing context for what was happening in the trailer, Horton revealed that the Tinkerer would be Spider-Man: Miles Morales‘ supervillain.
In the past, Horton discussed Spider-Man: Miles Morales‘ story in an interview with the PlayStation Blog, where he revealed that the game would revolve around Miles finding himself in the middle of a war between an energy corporation and a high-tech criminal army. During the showcase, Horton revealed the names of these two factions. The energy corporation is called “Roxxon,” and the high-tech criminal army is called “The Underground.”
The Tinkerer is the Underground’s leader, and in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, one of his goals is to steal an experimental energy source from Roxxon called New Form. The demo trailer revolves around the Underground assaulting Roxxon on the Broadway bridge over this energy, and Miles trying to save as many people he can from the resulting devastation.
The conflict between the Tinkerer and Roxxon comes straight out of the comics from Marvel’s Ultimate universe. In them, the Tinkerer, whose real name is Elijah Stern, used to work for Roxxon, but was fired from the company so that it could take all the credit for his research on turning Vibranium into a power source.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches November 12 for PS4 and PS5.
