How Does Demon’s Souls on PS5 Compare to the PS3 Original

Demon’s Souls is a highly anticipated remake and many are looking forward to the crushing difficulty that has become synonymous with the Souls franchise. The Demon’s Souls remake had been rumored for some time, and fans were delighted when it was officially announced to be in the works. Bluepoint Games who remade the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus are working on the game and it seems that the developer, which has a great track record of remakes, is outdoing itself.

It was announced at the recent PlayStation event that Demon’s Souls would be a launch title for the PlayStation 5. Fans of the game who had been waiting for a release date were overjoyed and the gameplay showcased a stark visual improvement. While there are clear changes in the detail of the areas in the game, a Youtuber has taken the time to inspect the gameplay and note several key differences in how it responds to player input as well as action. Unsurprisingly, ElAnalistaDeBits found a lot of differences to note.

The key differences/additions that feature in the Demon’s Souls remake gameplay were:

  • A new soul animation
  • More detailed and new moving animations
  • Added motion blur
  • The character becomes blood-stained after combat
  • Tesselated floor surfaces
  • No loading times
  • Spark particles appear when fighting enemies
  • Ray-traced reflections
  • Improved message layout

While the obvious visual improvements will have impressed fans the addition of elements that the PlayStation 5 looks set to make the game something special. The fact that the game does not need loading screens and uses ray-tracing will undoubtedly create a smoother and more immersive experience. Furthermore, the addition of new animations and effects during combat will likely lead to more satisfying combat.

The gameplay of Demon’s Souls has impressed fans and if the entire game runs as smoothly as the footage that has been shown many will be happy with the end product. With that said, many will be keen to experience the difficulty of the game first-hand before praising the title. The Souls games pride themselves on their difficulty and because of this many players will want the remake to play very similarly to the original.

Visually Demon’s Souls looks like it has been radically improved and it will be interesting to see if Bluepoint Games can deliver the same gameplay that made the original a cult classic.

Demon’s Souls releases November 12, 2020 for the PS5.
