The Jurassic World franchise has been steadily growing over the years with new film entries and major products, and will be continuing to do so this year. Jurassic World: Aftermath is a new virtual reality game made for the Oculus Quest that is coming right before Christmas.
A short announcement trailer for the next video game entry in the franchise was released online. The game is being developed by the studio COATSINK and will be published by Oculus from Facebook for the original Oculus Quest and the newly announced Oculus Quest 2.
The synopsis for Jurassic World: Aftermath reads,”You just crash landed onto Isla Nublar and Velociraptors are stalking your every move. Think quick and solve your way to safety in this thrilling new adventure. Coming soon to the Oculus Quest.” Unlike the bright and wholesome trailer for their Netflix show Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, this video displayed a darker glimpse of the gameplay that players can expect from the VR game.
While Jurassic World: Evolution lets players manage dinosaurs, the Jurassic World: Aftermath trailer portrays the game as sticking closer to the series’ thriller aspects. It starts off in a ruined office building before transitioning to a crashed park jeep followed by a pterosaur screeching in the moonlight. After that, it transitions to the main player character’s point of view, where it shows him running into an office break room to hide under a table from a Velociraptor pursuing him. The character keeps quiet as he only sees the raptor’s lower legs and the clawed tip of its feet clicking on the floor as it searches for him. The trailer ends on a series of flashing moments where the player character is either running or hiding from multiple raptors only to end with one catching him before transitioning to the game’s title logo and release date.
In contrast to the top-down control of the Sims-like Jurassic World: Evolution, this game puts players in the thick of the danger. It will be fully playable for both the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2. The game promises to provide players the thrill and terror of being chased by man-eating dinosaurs and aims to deliver that VR experience for gamers. The game takes place 2 years after the events of the first Jurassic World film, but there’s no confirmation if any major characters or celebrities from the franchise like Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm will make an appearance.
Jurassic World: Aftermath will be arriving for Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 on December 17, 2020.
