PUBG Officially Reveals Arena Mode | Game Rant

Since the introduction of the PUBG Labs program in 2019, players of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds have come across some interesting potential additions to the battle royale formula, from a flying vehicle to tests for a potential skill-based rating. For the server’s latest experiment, developer PUBG Corp will be trying out a new Arena mode.

Arena Mode will allow PUBG squads to battle for dominance over an arena in elimination matches until three squads are left standing. The remaining teams will engage in a final battle to win the full round. Outside of these basic ground rules, the developers have tweaked certain gameplay mechanics to encourage teamwork.

In a press release, PUBG Corp outlined the exact rules for this new game mode. Available in the Erangel, Miramar, and Sanhok maps, PUBG Labs’ Arena Mode supports up to 64 players, and pits squads against one another in a tournament-like series of battles. Each sealed section of the map serves as a titular “arena,” and three squads battle for control of each region. Arena Mode gives every squad three chances for victory before elimination. Once three squads or less remain, the final round will place the final teams in a Sudden Death arena. No matter how many losses a team has incurred, the winner of this match wins the full round.

Furthermore, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has also introduced gameplay elements to account for the more intimate combat. For example, players will be able to revive downed teammates in five seconds, cutting the usual timer in half. Moreover, Arena Mode will offer a traditional loadout menu instead of requiring combatants to loot for weapons. Players can earn money to purchase weapons by racking up their kill count. However, PUBG‘s newest game mode will only be available for four weekends on the PUBG Labs server. For the first two weekends, starting from the weekend of September 18, PC players will be able to access Arena Mode. Console fans will be able to try out the mode for the next two weekends.

Although it’s hard to say whether or not Arena Mode will be introduced to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ live servers, if PUBG Labs’ newest addition proves to be popular with players, the developers may officially release it. However, for PUBG fans who will be unable to play during the trial weekends, PUBG Corp has added a slew of new content with Update 8.3. This includes ferries for the Erangel map, two new Deathmatch stages and an item that will protect combatants from the Bluezone.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds‘ Arena mode will be available on weekends from September 18 to October 5, 2020 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
