Nine Inch Nails’ Quake Soundtrack Now Available on Vinyl

Nine Inch Nails surprised fans today by announcing it is releasing two albums on vinyl, and one of them is the soundtrack the 90s’ Quake.

The $35 two-record set is available for purchase only on the Nine Inch Nails website, with a total of 10 tracks and about an hour of total playtime. The ID Software video game score is the first composition Nine Inch Nails made that wasn’t a studio album. Surviving member Trent Reznor is still composing music, and his latest project is for Disney/Pixar’s Soul.

About 4 years ago, developer Machine Games celebrated Quake‘s 20th anniversary by releasing a brand-new episode for the game, so fans who have not picked up the title in a while may enjoy setting this album up on the turntable while they play. After all, digital copies of Quake do not have the music included.

These tracks were originally played directly from the Quake installation CD, and had no titles beyond Track 2 through Track 11. This vinyl release confirms once and for all the names of these tracks, from “Quake Theme” to “The Reaction.” The music is haunting and atmospheric, with creepy bass rumbling and alien creatures growling from unseen corners.

The soundtrack for The Social Network was released at the same time. For those not familiar, the 2010 film focused on the creation of Facebook.

Quake fans who don’t happen to have a record player, but who still want more content, should know that Quake Champions is still free-to-play.
