Pokemon GO Increasing Jessie and James Encounter Rate | Game Rant

Jessie and James are leaving Pokemon GO at the end of the month, but trainers will have a higher chance of encountering the troublesome duo before they blast off for good.

Jessie and James arrived in Pokemon GO on July 9, but unlike Pokemon, it is pointless to go out and look for the duo, because they are impossible to find directly. Instead, players have had to wait and hope that the duo finds them.

For the last few months, Team Rocket balloons have floated onto trainers’ screens at six hour intervals – usually they can be expected around 12 a.m., 6 a.m., 12 p.m., and 6 p.m. Most of the balloons are occupied by average Team Rockets grunts. If players have turned on their Rocket Radar, they also have a chance of encountering a Leader.

Only the luckiest players will see Jessie and James’ Meowth balloon float on to their Pokemon GO screen. Reliable information on the rate at which the event occurs is unavailable, with some players claiming that they can be encountered once per day and others saying that it is possible to go weeks without seeing the pair. But regardless of whether players have encountered the duo yet or not, Jesse and James will appear more often than usual starting Tuesday, September 22, at 12:00 a.m., until they leave on Wednesday, September 30, at 11:59 p.m. local time.

If a player does encounter Jessie and James, they can battle the duo to win a Shadow Shiny Ekans or Koffing. The pair fights with mostly un-evolved Pokemon – Jessie with her Ekans, Scyther, and Bagon and James with his Koffing, Sneasel, and Beldum – so as long as a trainer has some moderately powerful Pokemon, defeating the duo should not be too difficult. For players who are new or do not have some evolved Pokemon, it is probably a good idea to stock up on potions before the battle, as the pair must be defeated back-to-back.

Jesse and James have been a major feature since they were introduced to Pokemon GO and their absence will leave a vacuum that will likely have to be filled by another feature. Many fans speculate that Giovanni will return with a new quest. Earlier this year, Niantic announced that Giovanni would not appear until after September. Niantic did not fully keep its promise, however, as Giovanni was the subject of a GO Fest quest, but it still seems likely that Giovanni will step back in after Jesse and James’ departure.

Battling the duo is the only way to secure a Shadow Shiny Ekans or Koffing, so players should take advantage of the opportunity while they can.

Pokemon GO is available on IOS and Android devices.
