Although not as widespread as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind continually ranks at the top of The Elder Scrolls lists. There is much to admire about both games, but Morrowind edges Skyrim for being more political and varied.

8 Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn
The sequel to Baldur’s Gate answered back with a better story, artwork, and gameplay. Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn is ranked among the most excellent role-playing games of all time because of its grind-worthy leveling system. You start with a basic character and progress through the game by making improvements. Expect to play 200-300 hours trying to beat the main story and side quests of this game. The themes are in line with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
7 Divinity: Original Sin II
This masterpiece earned acclaim across the board for its awe-inspiring turn-based battles and role-playing elements. This is one of the best role-playing games of the modern era. How you approach each battle is unique since there is wide enemy variety.
This game can be played on console and PC, like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. However, Divinity: Original Sin II is more widely available on consoles like the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Ultimately, Morrowind is the more difficult game, but there are instances where players will be flustered in Skyrim.

Fable 4 already looks to be taking a page from The Elder Scrolls, with a similar backdrop on its announcement teaser trailer. In many ways, Fable is like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. They both come from the role-playing game genre, however, Fable doesn’t allow you to do character customization pre-game like many other role-playing games. You play as a male character who embarks on a fantasy journey. The games have similarities, such as focusing on exploration and questing, which is why you can’t go wrong with either.
3 Gothic II
Sometimes the sequel is better than the original. Gothic II expands in nearly every way with a countryside that is fun to explore. The rural area is the perfect setting for hunting monsters in dangerous territory. One can purchase the Gothic II: Gold Edition on the Steam Store for a bargain. The gameplay is along the lines of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Although Gothic II is beginning to show its age from a graphics standpoint, it is still enjoyable.
2 Arx Fatalis
Before they created games like Prey and Dishonored, Arkane Studios released a spellbinding game named Arx Fatalis. It is a role-playing game like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
It could be argued that Arx Fatalis surpasses Morrowind in combat. Small nuances like location-specific damage make Arx Fatalis stand out. There’s more polish to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, but if you’ve already played that, Arx Fatalis should be up your alley.
1 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a role-playing game, but it’s an outlier in the genre for containing a pre-determined character. That doesn’t mean The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt doesn’t have role-playing elements since one can customize Geralt of Rivia’s outfits and weapons.
Questing is a significant part of The Witcher, just like in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Both games are open-world phenomena that have shaken the role-playing game genre to its core. Developer CD Projekt Red created a masterpiece that ranks among greats like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
