7 Crazy PS5 Rumors That Turned Out To Actually Be True

This console cycle will be unlike any other. It already has been an exciting twist for a change thanks to the current pandemic. If not for the global outbreak, would Sony and Microsoft have waited this long to fully reveal their consoles with prices, dates, launch lineups, and the whole works?

Maybe that’s why both sides have had so many rumors over the past year. Some of these rumors sounded crazy about the PS5 at the time, but some have actually come true. There might be more to reveal before November 12 as well, but for now, let’s go over the seven craziest findings.

7 Demon’s Souls Remake

BluePoint Games sent out a teaser at the end of 2019. This tease was a poem on Twitter. Besides the speculation fans created by picking it apart, rampant rumors from varying sources cited a lot of possibilities. These rumors included a Jak and Daxter PS5 collection, a remake of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, a remake of Demon’s Souls, and a remake of Legend of Dragoon. These rumors persisted throughout the early months of 2020 before Demon’s Souls turned out to be true in June. Maybe the other rumors are also true?

6 Final Fantasy XVI

Wishing for Final Fantasy XVI can probably date back as far as 2015 when the last mainline entry launched. However, actual rumors didn’t start appearing until this past May and June. This seemed to point out that it was going to be teased during the PS5 reveal event but due to COVID-19, many plans had to be delayed. This is an element that will pop up in many other rumors on here. Days before this official reveal, rumors popped up again. The biggest surprise might be the more classic setting and actual length of the trailer. A lot is out there and Square Enix said they won’t show it again until 2021.

5 Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition

Speaking of that last PS5 event, another rumored title finally unearthed itself: Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition. This was a smaller story that slipped past many eyes, but this rumor appeared in July via a leaker named Dusk Golem.

This person called out that it was going to be a launch game for both consoles along with the very nature of the game adding Virgil as a playable character. Again, as a DLC expansion, it isn’t groundbreaking but it is still interesting to see it pop up months before the official unveiling.

4 Resident Evil VIII

Dusk Golem was one of the leakers responsible for uncovering the details behind Resident Evil VIII. This is a crazier story than Devil May Cry 5 and rumors of this game first popped up in January before the June reveal. It actually predicted that it would be a return of Ethan in a first-person adventure. It also guessed the setting and aspect of fighting werewolves citing that it was an ambitious departure for Capcom. The leak is seemingly right on the money about everything so if Dusk Golem ever pops up again, believe their words. The big question is if there are any surprises left.

3 A Double Dose Of Batman

The last game Rocksteady worked on was Batman Arkham VR in 2016. WB Montreal’s was helping with DLC in 2015 for Batman: Arkham Knight. Needless to say the rumor mill has been hard at work predicting what these two companies would be working on from a solo Superman game to a Justice League game. In June there were registrations based on Suicide Squad and Batman: Gotham Knights. This was around the time WB was also rumored to have their first showcase event at E3. Again, due to COVID-19 those plans had to be delayed which may be why these two games leaked when they did.

2 Hogwarts Legacy

The Batman games weren’t the only reason they would be holding their first press conference. Presumably they would have also shown off Hogwarts Legacy. Did this also leak in June? No, actually, footage of the game appeared online, albeit blurry and over the shoulder, in 2018.

It was quickly taken down and would not get officially unveiled until this last PS5 event, two years later. That is an incredible gap especially after real footage got out there. Some of the footage appears in the reveal trailer like petting that big purple beast. Looks like an interesting Harry Potter spin-off.

1 Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 leaked in May. A peripheral designer, Next Level Racing, posted the above image on Instagram along with asking people what their favorite racing game was. Notice the GT7 logo in the middle bottom there. Well, needless to say, this image was quickly taken down at the behest of Sony. It was only a month early but still something worth jotting down in the annal’s of the PS5’s history. There really was no other relevant data from this post, but again, the game wasn’t that far off from being officially revealed.
