Among Us and Ace Attorney Mash Up Sums Up Imposter Debates

Among Us has become the latest indie game phenomenon of 2020. The game of social deduction has become one of the most-watched games on Twitch, as streamers join together to see who is best at tricking their friends into mistakes. Fittingly, Among Us has drawn the attention of creative gamers, putting together all manner of fanart, memes, and more. There’s perhaps no better example of what Among Us is all about, or at least what fans think Among Us is about, than a new video crossing the game over with Ace Attorney.

The video places the characters of Among Us into the roles of an Ace Attorney court case. Specifically, Blue takes on the role of Phoenix Wright while Red takes on the role of prosecutor, with Black, Yellow, and other characters filling in as various character witnesses. Brown has been murdered, and it’s up to the rest of the players to figure out who murdered them so as to protect the rest of the crew.

Among Us players will likely see the video as a dramatized example of what happens in a typical round of Among Us. There’s are accusations, which leads to testimony, in which characters can perhaps be caught in a lie. Sometimes an accusation is just manipulation from the Imposter, while other times accusations can lead to a breakdown of a ruse and the reveal of an Imposter.

What really brings together this piece of fan-made video is the quality, of course. It doesn’t just capture a perfect conversation in Among Us, but it also wonderfully animates an action-packed Ace Attorney court case. The way the Among Us characters’ floating hands and space masks are used to capture Ace Attorney‘s characters’ animations is particularly noteworthy. If Among Us developer Innersloth wanted to do a crossover with Capcom, it’d likely be worth it.

But even beyond the animation of the video, there’s something special. It’s that the good guys winning is so rarely captured in Among Us fanart. Most memes and jokes for Among Us all feature the Imposter persuading the crew to launch a crewmate through the airlock. And where the crewmates are made to act logical and intuitive in the video, memes mostly represent players as aloof, irrational, and quick to believe lies. Players will have to decide for themselves which version would be more accurate.

It just goes to show that a game like Among Us, released in 2018 and now popular in 2020, along with a nearly 20-year-old franchise dwindling in popularity due to no recent releases, can combine to create something special. And it’s all because of how amazing the online gaming community and content creators can be.

Among Us is available now on PC and mobile devices.
