Black Desert Online Bans Twitch Streamer Sodapoppin for Inappropriate Name

The MMORPG world is largely dominated by Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, but occasionally, other games in the genre manage to make a name for themselves. One MMO growing in popularity as of late is Black Desert Online, which caught the attention of Twitch streamer Sodapoppin. Unfortunately, Sodapoppin’s Black Desert Online play came to an abrupt halt recently, as he was temporarily banned from the game.

At first, Sodapoppin was confused by his Black Desert Online ban, as he had been playing the game with no problems and seemingly didn’t do anything to warrant a ban. However, it then came to light that Sodapoppin was banned from Black Desert Online for the name he used in the game.

Evidently, Sodapoppin’s Black Desert Online account name was “pedowan” – likely an inappropriate pun on “padawan” from Star Wars. It seems as though language like this isn’t allowed by Black Desert Online‘s Terms of Service, though some were still shocked that the developers banned Sodapoppin, given his status as a popular Twitch streamer that could potentially bring more players to the MMORPG. On the bright side for Sodapoppin fans, though, his ban was only for 48 hours.

According to some of the comments in a Reddit thread about the situation, Sodapoppin’s “pedowan” name isn’t new. Apparently, he participated in a sponsored stream for Black Desert Online years ago, and it was during that stream that he first used the “pedowan” name. So he still had this name when he returned to Black Desert Online, causing the ban.

Even though Sodapoppin is currently banned from Black Desert Online, it will be interesting to see if his time playing the game translates into more players for it in the grand scheme of things. Black Desert Online has grown immensely in the last year, in no small part thanks to it being ported to mobile platforms as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (with Black Desert Online available on Xbox Game Pass), and being played by a popular streamer could only help its status. Then again, Sodapoppin fans may be upset by his ban and decide to avoid the game because of it.

Regardless, Black Desert Online has managed to reach new heights with the game expanding to other platforms, and it is showing no signs of slowing down. Moving forward, fans can expect the developers to keep adding new content in an effort to keep them engaged with the game.

Black Desert Online is out now for PC, mobile, PS4, and Xbox One.
