Godfall Follows Sony’s Lead with PS5 Version Pricing | Game Rant

With Sony having recently begun rolling out the final run of the PS5’s marketing, launch day releases like Godfall are beginning to prepare pricing and pre-orders for the new console releases. However, as players begin to sign up for PS5 pre-orders, they are coming alongside a surprising trend for the games launching on the next-gen system.

The first listings for Godfall on PS5 have begun to trickle in, starting on Best Buy’s store page, although no other storefronts have begun pre-orders or price listing at the time of this writing. Strangely, the PC version is also currently available for pre-order on the Epic Games Store, but the pricing between the two platforms seems to change based on how players choose to grab the game.

Falling in line with Sony’s previously announced PS5 title pricingGodfall‘s PS5 version will be launching at $69.99, taking the same $10 standard mark up as other titles on the system. Similarly, both of the upgraded editions, Godfall: Deluxe Edition and Godfall: Ascended Edition, will be available at $89.99 and $99.99 respectively for their PS5 versions. This lends credence to the idea that the pricing for all games coming to Sony’s next-gen consoles will likely be launching at this same amount, and not just those being published by the same company.

What stands out the most about this price-point on PS5 is that, while it fits in line with Sony’s pricing for the next-gen console, it doesn’t quite match up with the Epic Games Store pricing. As a result, the two different platform versions of Godfall‘s pre-orders have a $10 price gap between them, mirrored in both of the upgraded editions of the game as well. It is possible that the PC version’s price was a placeholder when originally posted, but considering that players can pay for the $59.99 version right now, the price difference is likely to remain.

Many players had already assumed that a price increase would be coming with next-gen consoles, with some analysts having been predicting that the prices would have to increase eventually long before the PS5 was even announced. A combination of the cost of making games, especially AAA titles with budgets in the millions of dollars, along with the cost of next-gen console development was bound to have an effect on pricing eventually. However, looking at the new features that PS5 will be bringing to games, along with what Counterplay Games has shown how Godfall utilizes the DualSense controller, the new tech and specifically built mechanics may be more than enough for some to justify the slight price jump.

Godfall is set to release November 12th, 2020, for PC and PS5.
