Marvel’s Avengers: 10 Annoying Details You’ll Only Notice At The End

Marvel Avengers has to be the most mediocre game of the year considering the hype that was surrounding it. The game was released on the fourth of September 2020, after a month of closed and open beta testing. During this time a lot of people have assumed that most of the issues with beta will be fixed by the time the final version comes out. In reality, not much changed, and that directly translated into the game’s review scores.

There are plenty of issues with Marvel Avengers that are easily spottable from playing a few hours. However, upon completion a lot more annoying details become apparent. And here’s a list of some of them.

10 Free Stuff In Microtransactions

Don’t we all miss the old golden days of gaming? When everything in a game was part of the experience. However, nowadays game publishers try to market a service in the name of a game. Marvel Avengers suffers the same fate. By the time players start playing the game they’ll realize that the best of the outfits and costumes, as well as animation, are a part of a marketplace. Unlocking them would mean shedding out cold hard cash. This is overkill especially considering the price of the game. Moreover, all that stuff should’ve been in-game unlockables, not microtransactions.

9 Banner’s Magical Clothing

The tone of the game is not overly realistic, but it does have a bit of seriousness spread across the plot. This would mean that even if it is fiction, visible parts of the story should make sense. Well, during the first mission with The Hulk and Ms. Marvel, Bruce turns into the Hulk. Later in the mission after beating the Abomination, Hulk turns back into Banner, where his clothing magically changes. It is possible that he scoured the area for a Jacket, but then it happens again. Right after that cutscene, Bruce is seen showing Kamala her room for the first time. But he is back in his traditional Purple blue outfit. The main question is, why does he change it so much? Why does he have the same pair of outfits?

8 Unrealistic Power Levels

Making a multiplayer experience isn’t easy. There are so many added factors that are needed to be taken care of, such as player equity and progressive updates. Sadly, these are the same things that can kill the immersion in a superhero game. The main goal of a superhero game is to make the players feel like they are one. Unfortunately, Marvel Avengers does a really poor job at it, and that is because of the multiplayer based gameplay mechanics. It is really odd that all these characters have levels, and a level 2 hulk would die faster than a level 5 Ms. Marvel. These characters are not supposed to have levels or be of a similar level. Thor is supposed to feel like playing as a god and Captain America should feel like playing as a super-soldier.

7 Poor Mission Design

Another thing that totally kills the immersion has to be the mission structures. Marvel Avengers isn’t just one game, it is two concepts very poorly combined together. First is the game’s multiplayer nature and the second is story-based cinematic missions.

And while the game could’ve benefited from being just one of those, developers have decided to add in both of them and have not truly given time to flesh them out. Especially the co-op missions where the player has to scour the same area do the same repetitive tasks over and over again.

6 The Incredible Pants And Other Outfits

Doesn’t it just feel odd how Hulk’s pants survive everything? Batman: Arkham Asylum is one great example of where the outfit is the part of the story. It gets worn out and torn down by the time players end the game. In Avengers though, the outfits are mostly okay even after explosions. The worst is Hulk’s pants, which not only survive fire and stuff but also somehow stay intact on Hulk. It is hilarious how Hulk is able to move like a wild animal without totally ripping his shorts.

5 Lack Of Real Emotions

One big thing that plagues the heart of this game is its semi focus on multiplayer things and a major focus on microtransactions. This is why many things in the game lose its real value and one major part of that is the main story progression. In a simplistic view, this is a story focused on Ms. Marvel and how she becomes part of the Avengers. However, all of that just runs down the drain when you realize that there isn’t an emotional cutscene or anything backing that up. She just becomes an Avenger one day and the game continues.

4 It Is Not A Game

Talking about the game, is Marvel Avengers really a one? One annoying aspect players will realize by the end of the game is the fact that it isn’t probably just a game. It is a service being provided by Square Enix to the gamers. This is why it suffers from a lot of issues right now that might change later on. This game is going to be progressively updated from time to time until it reaches a saturation point and its peak. But that can take months or years. This easily could’ve been avoided if it was intended to be made like a game instead of a service.

3 So What Is New?

Another question a lot of players should ask about this game is, what new does it bring to the table? It is a collective compilation of many other formulas forced into one package. Something that could’ve been a really cinematic and fun Avengers story, is reduced into a grind fest.

A game like this needs to be innovative, in gameplay mechanics and storytelling. Its paid updates should be more comic-based storylines, but instead, they are outfits and animation. On top of that, the gameplay is nothing too innovative taking inspirations from other games, making every superhero feel essentially the same.

2 Copy Paste

It is not lie that Destiny 2 has its audience. It is a good shooter, has great gameplay mechanics, and is constantly updated. However, it relies on a pretty boring upgrade formula. That formula is something that Marvel Avengers implements in itself. Parts of which are essentially a copy-paste. This might appeal to a certain audience, but maybe they should’ve stood back and created something original. After all, this is supposed to be the ultimate superhero alliance. Instead, players are found breaking boxes and waiting to suck up the loot in between serious missions.

1 No Campaign Replay

This is biggest problem of the game that players will notice after ending the game. Marvel’s Avengers is made of two types of missions, story missions, and multiplayer missions. Here, story missions are some of the better-structured ones, with more satisfying cinematics, progression, and attention to detail. This is why it comes as a shock that the game does not have an option to replay the campaign missions. There may be a slight chance of this to be added in later updates, but it should’ve been part of the initial build. It’s like the entire focus wasn’t on the story.
