Assassin’s Creed Valhalla reveals a new location that will be featured in the game, much to the delight of Robin Hood fans around the world. Sherwood Forest will be an explorable area within the Snotinghamscire region of the game, though fans shouldn’t expect Robin Hood himself to make an appearance.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is drawing ever nearer, and fans are slowly but surely begin given more and more information. The inclusion of this area may not seem like a big deal, but fans will certainly enjoy discovering it within the game. It seems as though there will be a lot of variance within the areas available in the game.
This reveal came as a response to a tweet from a fan asking about Robin Hood’s involvement in the game, and confirms that the character won’t be making an appearance but does reveal the area and a small bit of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s world map.
In his response, Narrative Director Darby McDevitt explains that Robin Hood would not appear in the game due to the time period it is set. His appearance would be more fitting during the timeline of the original Assassin’s Creed game, as Valhalla is set a healthy 300 years before his rise to fame. He then goes on to elaborate about Sherwood Forest, and in Assassin’s Creed style suggests that fans could run around there and pretend to be Robin Hood’s ancestor. This joke lands well given the importance of lineage in the franchise and the capabilities of the Animus.
There has never been anything to substantiate these kinds of rumors, but many fans have been pining for a Robin Hood themed Assassin’s Creed game for a while now. The character does seem to fit well into the world of the Assassins and a chance to explore England during that time period would be rather interesting. Now that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will take players to England a few hundred years beforehand, it seems even less likely that fans will get a Robin Hood game within the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Still, this acts as a sort of nod to those fans.
Whether or not there will be an Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Robin Hood or Easter egg within Sherwood forest remains to be seen, but the developers could easily make a reference to it since the character in the present would associate it with that folk tale. Until the game releases this November, fans will just have to wait and see.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla releases November 10th for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and November 12th for PS5.
