The Black Ops Cold War alpha has been interesting, to say the least, with mixed player reactions to different aspects of the game. One weird moment in the alpha was captured by a pro Call of Duty player, and showcases one of the first major Black Ops Cold War glitches.
While playing Kill Confirmed, one of the five modes in the Black Ops Cold War alpha, professional Call of Duty Player Justin Fargo-Palmer encounters a glitch that grants him an extra weapon slot. Fargo-Palmer switches between his assault rifle, SMG, and a pistol to show off that he is somehow carrying three different weapons at the same time. The specific guns were the XM4, Type 821, and Diamatti.
The pro player switches through the weapons in the hotel lobby of the Black Ops Cold War map Miami, utterly confused by how he is holding three weapons at the same time. He says “I’m very confused… how do I carry three guns” within the clip, and he seems just as surprised by the moment as any other player would be. How the glitch occurred is anyone’s guess, though it is certainly interesting.
The bug is reminiscent of the Call of Duty Zombies perk Mule Kick, which sees players hold three guns intentionally as opposed to being forced to due to a bug. Funnily enough, the perk was actually created due to a three-gun glitch on some of the original World at War Zombies maps, so perhaps this glitch could be the origin of a three-gun perk in Black Ops Cold War multiplayer. Even if it is not, fans may see Mule Kick return in Black Ops Cold War’s version of Zombies due to the discovery of one of the classic perk jingles in the teaser for the mode.
It is also worth noting that the version of the glitch that happened to Justin Fargo-Palmer is a less severe case, as a player named Keith Pecora showed off a scenario where he was holding four different weapons at the same time. This also occurred on Miami, so perhaps the glitch’s source is the neon-filled multiplayer map. Regardless, the glitch could be deadly in the hands of a skilled player, as switching quickly from one of Black Ops Cold War’s intentionally overpowered snipers to an SMG to an assault rifle can make someone good become unstoppable.
This is an interesting bug but given that this is only an alpha for Black Ops Cold War, it will likely be fixed by the Treyarch team quickly. Players should be back to only holding two weapons by the time they are playing the game again during the October 8 beta for Black Ops Cold War.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available November 13, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions will also be available.
