Rumor: Apex Legends Crossplay Feature Launching Sooner Than Expected

Developer Respawn Entertainment announced that Apex Legends would be getting crossplay back in June at EA Play, along with Steam and Switch ports of the game. Since then, there haven’t been many concrete details, but a new rumor might have nailed down when crossplay will happen.

One of the three announcements from EA Play has come to fruition, Apex Legends is available now on Steam, complete with adorable Valve-inspired gun charms. But since then, fans have been wondering when crossplay and the Switch version will come. In addition, many were expecting the game’s first new limited-time mode and accompanying collection event for Season 6 to release in September, as this is the point in an Apex season is usually when those things happen.

This is where the reliable dataminer known as Shrugtal comes in. Known for keeping constant tabs on the changes in Apex Legends’ code and spotting things like the possible new “gadget” type weapon Respawn appears to be working on, Shrugtal is a wise and trustworthy source. Originally he pegged the next event, allegedly called Aftermarket, for September 15. That date came and went and all fans received was the September Soirée event that is currently ongoing, but only features old modes and previously released skins. But Shrugtal has since released a new video explaining what changed.

On EA support’s page for Apex Legends, there was a post saying that the Switch version was expected for September, and logic would dictate that this release was planned to coincide with the Aftermarket event and Crossplay, as Respawn likely developed all of these elements to be released together to reduce the odds of bugs that could occur. This could mean that the Switch version and/or crossplay hit a snag in development, and so Switch, crossplay, and the Aftermarket event had to be delayed out of September.

In Shrugtal’s new video, he noted that the current skin rotation data for the store runs out before Tuesday, October 13. This led him to deduce that the Switch port, crossplay, and Aftermarket event have been delayed one full month from September 15 to October 13 to give Respawn enough time to work out whatever Switch and crossplay issues it had been running into.

Shrugtal ended the video by also reconfirming that a limited-time Halloween mode remixing the Shadowfall mode from last year, but with a new twist that has yet to be discovered. It will also include the lovely jump scares of spiders and zombified Titanfall pilots jumping out of supply bins once again.

While waiting for all of this new content, players who want to collect some of the incredibly dapper Grand Soirée event skins from last year that they missed out on, they can nab them now while they are on the store.
