The Elder Scrolls Online is reaching the culmination its current 4-part Dark Heart of Skyrim DLC series. It began way back in March with the release of Harrowstorm, was expanded most recently in August with Stonethorn, and will conclude with the upcoming Markarth expansion planned for November. The developers aren’t ready to reveal all of Markarth’s secrets just yet. For the time being, however, a brand new teaser for Markarth has been released for The Elder Scrolls Online players to consider.
The lengthy preview of Markarth was shared as part of the Year-End Preview video shared by the Elder Scrolls Online development team. The preview covers a broad swathe of content coming with Markarth. The developers discuss various NPCs, new enemies, and assorted plot threads players will encounter in-game. There’s all manner of political intrigue going on in the Reach, and that’s before introducing vampires and other malevolent parties to the mix.
But the preview isn’t just developers giving verbal introductions to Markarth, there’s also plenty of gameplay footage. This is a version of Skyrim that’s both different and familiar for Elder Scrolls fans. There are new cities above ground and below, familiar and strange. There are new enemies to battle, again both familiar and strange. Bethesda is taking advantage the DLC taking place in such a familiar location. It may even be worth revisiting The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim to see how the two games connect.
As for specific structure content, Bethesda explains that Markarth will feature about 10 hours of entirely new questlines and story content to experience. In addition to that, Markarth will also feature its very own new solo arena, the first since ESO‘s Maelstrom DLC. Given the breadth of new content added over the past year, Markarth will try and deliver complimentary new content and experiences
ESO players anxious to dig into Markarth, or those unsure whether they want to pick up the new DLC, can get started early. Bethesda confirmed that a prologue quest for Markarth was going to be released for free, and better yet it’s available to all ESO players right now. There’s no need to have played any of the prior DLC in order to try out the new prologue quest. Bethesda is hoping it persuades some people to give the DLC a chance.
The Elder Scrolls Online is available now on. The Markarth DLC releases November 2 on PC and Stadia, followed by a November 10 launch on PS4 and Xbox One.
