Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta Dates Confirmed for All Platforms

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War recently saw its alpha come to an end, and it was certainly interesting. Fans on other platforms now know when they will get the chance to try the game out themselves, as the Black Ops Cold War beta dates have been confirmed for all platforms.

The Black Ops Cold War beta will be split over two weekends, the first of which is an all-PlayStation affair. Early access for PlayStation pre-orders will kick off on October 8th, with the open beta kicking off on October 10th and concluding on October 12th. Thankfully, it has been confirmed that the intentionally overpowered Black Ops Cold War snipers will be nerfed before the beta becomes playable.

Players on other platforms can look forward to their beta dates a week later, with Xbox and PC pre-orders jumping in on October 15th. On the 17th, both the PC and Xbox betas will become open to all players until they end on October 19th. PlayStation players will also have access to the beta for a second week, with the PS4 public beta resuming as soon as the early access beta on other platforms begins. Whether the beta will have a toned-down version of the Black Ops Cold War alpha’s skill-based matchmaking is unclear, as Activision did not touch on the controversial issue when announcing the beta dates.

The beta will include additional modes not seen in the alpha such as Black Ops Cold War’s VIP escort mode, which sees players escorting a VIP to an extraction zone in a one-life mode like Search and Destroy. The new mode Fireteam Dirty Bomb will also be playable, which sees ten teams of four fighting over a single objective. Other new content that will come to the beta version of Black Ops Cold War has yet to be discussed, though some form of rank progression is likely given previous CoD betas.

Given the leaked attachments for the XM4 and AK-74u, weapon progression could also come to the Black Ops Cold War beta, though it is unconfirmed at this time. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what players on the other platforms have to say about the newest Call of Duty game. Apart from the much-debated SBMM issue and players frustrated over sniper rifles, the response to the alpha version of the game seemed positive. Hopefully with a newer build of the game being playable soon, that positivity continues, and the issues players had with the alpha are rectified.

Call of Duty fans should only be expecting multiplayer content from the beta version, as any potential Warzone mode changes will not be playable in the beta. Treyarch’s next Call of Duty Zombies venture will also be left out of the beta, keeping player focus on testing one area of the game only.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available November 13th on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
