Back in August, Activision started shipping out mysterious crates to various gaming publications and content creators, teasing the imminent reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Since then, Activision has given Call of Duty fans a deep-dive into the Black Ops Cold War campaign, and has even let PS4 players go hands-on with the game in the surprise multiplayer Alpha test. Now it seems as though the Black Ops Cold War Zombies reveal is set to take place as early as tomorrow, if the latest round of mysterious crates Activision has sent out are to be believed.
The contents of the crates have led fans back to the PawnTakesPawn website, which was previously used by Activision to tease the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign. Those decrypting the clues were initially led to a a “Waves of Attack” page on the PawnTakesPawn site, which asks visitors to head to the “TV” page on Wednesday, September 23 at 12pm ET. Right now, the page just shows a screen with static, and has little else in the way of clues.
While not confirmed by Activision, this strongly implies that the Black Ops Cold War Zombies reveal is set to happen tomorrow. After all, “Waves of Attack” is an apt descriptor for Call of Duty Zombies modes of the past, as players have traditionally been tasked with taking out waves of the undead, and based on what has been shown so far, that style of gameplay is almost certainly returning in Black Ops Cold War.
The Black Ops Cold War multiplayer reveal trailer had a brief Zombies tease at the very end of it that gave fans a few pieces of information. For one, the teaser showed a much darker setting and tone than fans may be used to, and secondly, it confirmed that fan favorite items like the monkey bomb will be making a comeback. And finally, the trailer seemed to suggest that the classic Call of Duty Zombies map Nacht der Untoten will be featured.
Frequent Call of Duty franchise leaker TheGamingRevolution has said that Black Ops Cold War Zombies will have a revamped version of Nacht der Untoten, like with returning features like the ray gun and a new map set in a Vietnamese jungle. Whether or not there’s any truth to these claims remains to be seen, but it seems like fans will find out sooner rather than later.
Of course, it’s possible that the September 23 reveal is something entirely unexpected. Maybe a new Black Ops Cold War multiplayer mode is going to be revealed, or maybe Activision is going to give players another look at the campaign instead. Whatever the case may be, Call of Duty fans will find out tomorrow.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches November 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
