Special Destiny 2 Quest Launches Tomorrow | Game Rant

For many players, Destiny 2 is the game that keeps on giving, or close to it. While moments like The Taken King were huge for the original DestinyDestiny 2 has become another beast entirely. It continues to plough ahead, although not everyone goes with it.

There are plenty of typical reasons people stop being involved with Destiny 2. For some, it’s the constant grind to stay up to date in the game, while others simply lose interest and want to try other games. But every now and again, people stop being involved with Destiny 2 for more tragic reasons, and not just on the player side.

Starting tomorrow, Destiny 2 is adding a new mission to honor a dev who passed away last year. The dev in question is Matt Helsom, who worked for Vicarious Visions. He and the rest of the team at Visions collaborated with Bungie on Destiny 2 many times, with Helsom creating art for the game. Helsom worked on both 2D and 3D art, creating the look and feel of Destiny 2. It is not a contribution many players are likely to forget, especially not after the quest.

While there are still some unknowns about the quest, what is known is that the players will receive a message telling them to go to Mars, where the quest will start. One player has stated they found a small chamber on Mars that was not present before, which contains some computer equipment. There’s a good chance this will be integral to the quest somehow. It’ll also be another nice farewell to Mars, which is getting shelved with the release of Dying Light.

Odds are, this is not the first many fans are hearing about Melsom’s passing. Destiny 2 has a very devoted following, including many who work on artistic projects about the game. Fan creations range from fictional, like Mastodon metal album covers, to useful charts of damage reduction in-game. Creativity is clearly valued in the Destiny 2 community, and that no doubt goes double for the game’s devs.

There’s a lot still to come in Destiny 2, and players are waiting the next big update with bated breath. But it’s important to remember the time and effort that goes into making a game that big. As players take time to create strategies, exploits, and elaborate Wish-15 theories, sometimes it’s best simply to reflect on everything that’s already been put into the game, both by the creators, and the players.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
