10 Games To Play If You Liked Marvel’s Avengers | Game Rant

With the recent release of Marvel’s Avengers, players have finally been able to assemble a team of their favorite costumed crusaders. And in true Marvel fashion, the game does not skimp on action, cool gear and loot, or lingering plot questions left after the story’s end.

And once they’ve reached the aforementioned end, players will probably be left wanting more heroic hijinks. So to anyone looking to satiate their taste for super-powered play, fret not.The following titles will help tide players over until the Avengers assemble for a sequel.

10 Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

Any gamer who has ever wanted to form their own roster of heroes should play this game immediately. It’s a top-down dungeon crawler in which players get to assemble a team of characters, strategize about which abilities to pair with each other, and take on hordes of baddies at once.

It boasts a huge cast, includes fan favorites and niche secrets, and gives players the control to mix and match as they please. And while players may not have known they wanted to watch Magneto, Spider-Man, and the Hulk work as a team, it’s a beauty when they realize it’s a match that was always meant to be.

9 Diablo 3

Considered by many to be the godfather of the dungeon looter genre, the Diablo franchise isn’t exactly as family friendly as traditional Marvel fare. But it does provide great role playing combat, character building variability, awesome loot, interesting lore and characters, and a story with epic implications.

And while the game may not have balloon hand super powers, iron tech suits, or patriotic frisbee shields, it does have all the excitement of building a character’s powers and skills. Then, once their plan is set and their abilities mastered, they take on enough enemies to feel like a one person army. Plus, there’s tons of cool loot, and that doesn’t just mean costumes.

8 Injustice: Gods Among Us

One of the few fighting games that implements RPG elements and lets players upgrade their characters between fights, Injustice 2 feels a lot like a Zack Snyder version of Mortal Kombat vs. DCU. It’s great to get to pit Superman against Batman in the modern generation, and then upgrade their gear and abilities.

With a large cast of characters, classic fighter sensibilities, and nice character progression, Gods Among Us is a great way to kill time. And the superhero combat is a great comedown from the Avengers madness.

7 Destiny 2

While people may be skeptical about Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the base title is a great example of a classic looter shooter. And while that may not be anywhere near the same genre as Avengers, it is still a great and action packed game with loot, raids, online community, and title-chasing.

And Destiny’s aesthetic and concept design is such a great execution of action/adventure/sci-fi visuals, it’s definitely worth a gander (at least). But players must get ready to grind. Rewards are great, the experience is great fun, but tedium is built in as players traverse this expansive sci-fi world.

6 Batman: Arkham Knight

Another entry in the superhero genre, Batman: Arkham Knight represents the peak of Rocksteady’s neo-noir realization of Gotham City. The batmobile may not have been exactly what fans were hoping for, but pretty much everything else was. Players got to swing around rooftops, enact skillful stealth sequences, and bring about justice with batarangs and fists.

The cast of villains includes just about every major character in the franchise, and Gotham City has never felt more chaotically doomed. Plus, the existential war going on in Bruce Wayne’s mind has never been more clearly (or brutally) illustrated. This game may not have been the best in the franchise, but it is without a doubt the experience that will leave players feeling the most “like Batman.”

5 God Of War

Sony Santa Monica’s 2018 reimagining of the PlayStation’s best (and most controversial) hero needs no introduction. God Of War was a recipient of many people’s game of the year vote, was celebrated as a true achievement in interactive storytelling, and gave players a taste of a refined and divine extravaganza of God and monster slaying.

Players stepped into a world of icy vistas, giant serpents, tons of battles, and weirdly enough, fatherhood goals. And if Thor is a player’s Avenger, then this may be the perfect follow up game. Or the worst, depending on how they look at it, as the Norse Gods are not exactly framed as great people. But despite all of this, Kratos’ most recent romp is definitely worth a post-Avengers play through.

4 Marvel’s Spider-Man

Insomniac Games’ blockbuster hit Marvel’s Spider-Man is definitely in the conversation for the best superhero game ever made, and it a great next step for anyone who loved Square Enix’s take on the super team. Spidey has never felt as cool and competent as he does in this version, and the game throws out a host of classic villains for players to battle.

But the real crowning achievement of the title, and something all players should experience, is the unbelievably fun web-slinging mechanics. Players get to launch themselves off of skyscrapers and zip-line over trafficked streets, sometimes seamlessly transitioning into combat with burglars and baddies. It’s a rush and an evolution in environment traversal, and another video game pillar of the Marvel Universe.

3 The Division 2

Out of all the entries on this list, this title may be the biggest stretch. After all, a pandemic-themed third person shooter isn’t exactly similar to blasting around as Iron Man. But The Division 2 is still a great third person action, adventure, and looter that has a team of agents fighting to save Washington.

Plus, the game offers tons of variety in both experience and playstyle, as weapons, signature ammos, and equipment. But nobody who has an issue with smallpox should take this adventure. Ye be warned.

2 Ghost Of Tsushima

Sucker Punch Productions may have built the most beautiful open world in gaming with their 2020 hit Ghost Of Tsushima. And while feudal Japan may not be the most logical next step in the wake of a superhero game, intricate and addicting combat and a world full of exploration and loot most definitely is.

Players take control of Jin Sakai on his quest to repel thousands of Mongols from his home island of Tsushima. There is stabbing, slashing, parrying, dodging, sleuthing, and so much avenging. And while there may not be any explicit superpowers involved, Jin does take on an entire army singlehandedly. Which is rather super in and of itself. Much like Batman, it seems his superpower is competence.

1 Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2

How could any list about Avengers-like games be complete without the Lego edition? After all, this is basically the same game, just slightly more cubic and a lot more lighthearted. And if players want hordes of enemies and super powered carnage without any of the stakes, guilt, or sense of urgency, then this is absolutely the title for them.

It features practically every Marvel character under the sun, is charmingly fun, and by golly, everybody just looks so cute in Lego form. Except for Lego Hulk. He still looks kind of tough.
