Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 2 Screenshots Could Mean Great Things for the Game’s Future

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot fans are ready for more now that DLC 2 info is finally starting to release. Most recently Bandai Namco shared new DLC 2 screenshots showcasing Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta, as well as this DLC’s main antagonist, Golden Frieza. While this is exciting, it shows nothing that fans didn’t already know was coming. One of the screenshots, however, gives insight on more potential content for future DLC pack, sparking the imagination of fans as a result. The image in question shows Zarbon, Dodoria, Apule, and Cui, all members of the Frieza Force that met their untimely demise on Namek and were later revived with the Dragon Balls.

Fans already have a good idea of what Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 2 will hold in store for them. More likely than not, they’ll train with Whis to unlock the Super Saiyan Blue form, do battle with Frieza’s army, and then eventually face down the evil emperor himself. That said, there is still a lot that is unknown about DLC 2 based on these screenshots, including what sorts of sub-stories it will include and just how important these resurrected characters will end up being. Even more enigmatic is the future of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot for DLC 3 and potentially beyond, as there are a lot of ways that Bandai Namco could go about things.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s DLC plans have been confusing to say the least, but after Beerus was revealed as the boss for DLC 1, most fans assumed that Golden Frieza would be next. DLC 3 remains in a strange spot, however, as it promises to bring an entirely new story arc to the game. The most obvious choice here would be the Universe 6 Saga since it follows directly after Golden Frieza’s arc, but there are still some theories claiming that the Future Trunks Saga could come next instead.

On the other hand, the Future Trunks Saga wouldn’t make much sense without the background information provided by the Universe 6 Saga, as the multiverse isn’t introduced to the characters in the game until after that point. For this reason, another option would be for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot to put Dragon Ball Super on hold for a while and instead tell its own original story. When first announced, Kakarot‘s season pass promised fans original content and has yet to live up to that promise, so this would be an interesting route to take.

If Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot were to explore some original stories, there are a few angles it could take. For starters, characters like Android 21, Bonyu, and Mira all are great options for creating brand new stories. On the other hand, though, these screenshots show that the Dragon Ball resurrection of villains is canon within the world of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and therefore could be used as part of these original stories in the future.

For a time there was uncertainty about whether or not players would need to suspend their disbelief in regards to Golden Frieza. Initially it seemed likely that the DLC would take place outside of the canon of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot just like the first DLC did, instead opting to have Frieza revived by his henchman as usual despite the player already having revived him, but now fans know this isn’t the case. None of the revived characters shown in the screenshot were present for Resurrection F in either the anime or the manga, so it is clear that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is working within its own mythos here rather than borrowing from the source material.

Aside from Frieza, Zarbon, Dodoria, Appule, and Cui, many other Dragon Ball Z villains were revived and are simply hanging out on Earth. This includes villains from as early as the Saiyan Saga like Raditz and Nappa and as late as the Buu saga like Babidi’s minions. There is a huge well of untapped potential with these characters now that they have returned and will have the chance to see Goku and Vegeta’s godly power first hand. Dragon Ball Super has made it clear that many of these characters have the potential to be just as strong as the Saiyans.

Raditz and Nappa are both Saiyans, and could therefore theoretically attain Super Saiyan Blue as well with enough training. The Cell Jrs and Androids 19 and 20 all have the same potential as Android 17, who ends up being one of the strongest fighters in Universe 7 thanks to his continued training leading up to the Tournament of Power. Finally, Dabura is even brought back, but unlike the other villains he returns as a pacifist. A story arc allowing the player to fight side by side with Dabura would be enjoyable for most.

This could also potentially solve an issue that fans have had with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s current DLC plan. Assuming a second season pass is released after the first and it also has three DLCs contained within it, there would actually be one extra DLC slot. Dragon Ball Super currently only consists of five arcs, two of which are already confirmed as part of the first season pass. This last DLC could either be based off of the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie or even the ongoing Galactic Prisoner manga arc, but there’s another option as well.

If DLC 3 of the first season pass is original content based somehow on the revived villain characters, that would allow the Universe 6 and Future Trunks sagas to instead be boss battle episodes like Beerus and Frieza were. At this point, the third and final DLC for the second season pass could focus on the Tournament of Power, doing what it can to give that arc justice. This would even allow for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s Goku to unlock Ultra Instinct. Even if this were to happen, it would be a long ways away given the current DLC release schedule, but fans should keep an eye on other resurrected characters just in case.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
