Leaks are an inevitability within the video game industry. While sometimes big shakeups like Microsoft acquiring Zenimax Media come as a complete surprise, more often than not new titles and details find their way onto the internet. In this case, it seems that the leak didn’t come from the gaming press or even an anonymous forum user. This is a scenario where an error from a publisher’s website let loose info on a new game.
Kirby Fighters 2 has seemingly been leaked as an upcoming Switch title. This information found its way online after users were able to discover the game within the Play Nintendo website. Users who used the websites parental Game Finder feature and then selected the “Nintendo Switch Systems” criteria discovered the yet-to-be-revealed sequel to the 2014 3DS game.
This leak of Kirby Fighters 2 doesn’t simply start and end with confirmation of the game’s existence. Twitter users who discovered the game within the catalog of Switch titles found an accompanying image, price and even a descriptor. The price tag on what is described as a game to see “who is the last Kirby standing” is $19.99. What was noticeably absent from the strange amount of mistakenly uploaded information was any kind of release date.
Another key bit of info that found its way into the description of the game was an entirely new Kirby transformation. Kirby is known as one of the stranger Nintendo creations as the pink marshmallow swallows his enemies to take their powers. It’s customary for new Kirby games to introduce new powers, but in this case the new technique is now known before it could be shown off. Kirby Fighters 2 will include a “brand-new Wrestler ability” that players can see in the logo image accompanied with the title. It features a yellow Kirby wearing a traditional wrestler’s mask.
The news of Kirby Fighters 2‘s existence isn’t the only bit of leakage about Nintendo’s pink and famously hungry character. It was earlier this month that a never-before released Kirby game was leaked online. The information surrounding the title has provided ample reason as to why the strange Game Boy Color spin-off never made it out into the public. Kirby Family was a title that utilized a sewing machine accessory to create Kirby themed patterns, as Mario Family did before it.
While the surprise of a new Kirby title may have lost its spark through the oversight, it doesn’t mean fans won’t be any less excited for more Kirby. At least with this much information, players can feel safe in knowing that Kirby Fighters 2 won’t be among the numerous cancelled Kirby titles.
