With not long to go until the PlayStation 5 releases, details about some of its upcoming games and system capabilities are starting to spread. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be one of the first playable games on PS5, but now there are more details on exactly how it will take advantage of the new console.
Sony’s PlayStation 5 is bringing some horsepower to the table by offering a fast SSD and ray tracing capabilities, which is a pretty big step above the current PS4 Pro. The question now is how video games will make use of the next-gen console’s new power. Assassin’s Creed has had a long history over the lifecycle of many consoles, but how exactly the franchise’s newest game will play on the PS5 has now been revealed.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is said to run at 60 frames-per-second in 4K resolution on the PlayStation 5, which matches how it will run on the new Xbox Series X. This exceeds some expectations that the game would only run at 30fps.
The game will be released on both PS4 and PS5, but for those players wondering how the game will compare on each console, Valhalla is taking advantage of the PS5’s SSD for near-instant loading times and will use Tempest Engine for 3D sound. Not too many specs for next-gen games have been revealed as yet but its likely that 4K and 60fps will become standard practice on next-gen consoles.
While 4K resolution is quickly becoming the standard for TVs, only the newer current-gen consoles such as the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X have been able to support 4K gaming in one form or another. 60fps will also add to smoother gameplay and paired with the quick load times of the SSD, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla should make for a seamless experience all around on the PS5. How exactly the game will take advantage of the PS5’s other features, such as the haptic feedback of the DualSense controller, will probably have to wait until Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is released in a couple of months.
While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be available on current-gen consoles on November 10, PS5 players will be able to get their copy of the game two days later on November 12. It’s worth pointing out that Ubisoft is also offering a free next-gen upgrade for those who purchase the PS4 edition. For players wanting to take advantage of this it should be noted that whatever the current-gen edition of the purchased game is, ie. digital or physical, will be the same for the next-gen upgrade.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be available on November 10 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and will be available on November 12 for PlayStation 5.
