Destiny 2 is Adding Some Exciting Elements to Missions

Destiny 2 players are getting a lot of interesting news and teased content recently, with the Festival of the Lost coming in about a month and the new Europa destination trailer getting a lot of fans excited. Bungie took to its blog to announce a bunch of new features coming to the game soon.

Many Destiny 2 fans are already talking up the intriguing horror-themed armor for the Festival of the Lost event commemorating Halloween, and of course, every bit of new information about the Beyond Light expansion spurs a ton of theorizing and analysis that’s getting much of the player base excited. Now, Bungie is trying to get players amped up to visit the frozen planet Europa and participate in various new gameplay activities there.

In preparation for visiting Europa, a full map is available now for players, and the planet is confirmed to be icy cold and snowy, throwing another new challenge at players. Besides content, Bungie discusses the more technical side by revealing some back-end changes to missions, courtesy of the Engineering Director, David Aldridge. The director explains how the team simply didn’t anticipate how much Destiny 2 would grow back at its launch, and that the decision to not work on a Destiny 3 means that a lot of tech investments are going into making Destiny 2 sustainable.

Notably, the mission scripting model is shifting from the Mission Host to the Physics Host, which will give designers the ability to create more unique mission mechanics, and that this shift will happen in Beyond Light. Players are warned to look out for more bugs in Destiny 2 due to the shift. One new feature of this shift is face-to-face join, so people can be on a Fireteam with Tower friends and avoid a long reload. Beyond Light is also bringing in more Community emblems, like Fashion and Movie of the Week.

Hopefully, by changing the way mission scripting works, missions in Destiny 2 will eventually flow smoother and give players less time to sit around and wait, even if it means there will be more bugs to report for now. Bungie says community members are always welcome to submit bug reports, which can help the devs get on fixes faster and make the game run smoother for everyone.

November 10 is going to be a big day this year for all of the gaming community, given that it’s the Xbox Series X/S release date, but it will also be a major game-changer for Destiny 2 players, given all the new content and features coming to Beyond Light.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light will be available on November 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The PS5 version should be available November 12.
