Every player in Pokemon GO likely has their favorite Pokemon as their buddy Pokemon. With the Mega Buddy Challenge event currently going on in-game, trainers will need to take good care of these buddy Pokemon to earn hearts.
One of the Timed Research tasks for the Mega Buddy Challenge event requires players to earn hearts with their buddy Pokemon. There are many ways to do this in Pokemon GO, allowing players to choose which way they want to bond with their monsters.
When raising hearts with a buddy Pokemon, players should note that they can only earn a total of ten hearts a day. The only way to increase the max number of hearts earned per day is through getting their Pokemon into the “excited” status. This can be achieved via playing with them and feeding them throughout the day, or by giving the Pokemon a Poffin.
There are a total of six different activities that players can do with their buddy Pokemon in one day. These activities are:
- Walk together
- Give the buddy Pokemon a treat
- Play together
- Battle together
- Take a snapshot
- Visit a new place like a Gym
Walking together will provide a heart every two kilometers up to three times per day. The buddy Pokemon is required to be out on the field and following its trainer to do this, meaning players will need to give their buddy Pokemon three berries in order to get it moving.
Players can give their buddy Pokemon a treat and fill their berry meters up to three times per day, allowing for another three hearts to be earned. However, it will cost three berries to fill each meter, meaning that nine berries will be required in total to complete this activity every day.
To play with a buddy Pokemon, players need to enter the buddy menu and press play. The Pokemon will be required to come out in AR mode, so players need to make sure they have enough room. From there, players can pet their Pokemon on the head in order to get one heart per day. Taking a snapshot with the camera feature also offers one heart every day.
Finally, if players go to a new PokeStop or Gym that they’ve never visited before while their buddy Pokemon is following them, they can get one heart per day for visiting a new place.
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
